STAFF ACCOUNTANT , MIT Federal Credit Union-Accounting Department , to assist with the month-end closing process, daily/weekly general ledger (G/L) accounting transactions of third-party accounting/core processing systems, financial reporting, and other accounting-related tasks. Responsibilities include preparing daily and contributing to month-end G/L entries and analyses, posting to the G/L system, and producing reports; participating in accounting for the investment portfolio; serving as primary backup for Accounts Payable, including assigning accurate G/L accounts, posting entries, issuing checks, mailing, filing, etc.; participating in accounting for fixed assets and prepaid/accrued expenses on G/L system, setting-up, processing, and reconciling accounts; preparing month-end reports and contributing to coordinating the monthly board of directors package; participating in the regulatory reporting process, which may include the NCUA 5300 Call Report and other regulatory reports; preparing ad-hoc reports and schedules; monitoring and balancing various suspense accounts in the G/L and assuming responsibility for bank reconciliations and other assigned G/L accounts; providing audit support; and acting as backup for other staff accountants.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in a related field; knowledge of accounting principles and relevant federal regulations for specialty areas, including those specific to research and nonprofit organizations; at least one year of experience, preferably in credit union/bank/public accounting; strong communication skills; ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial data and write or graph reports; ability to work with mathematical concepts and statistical methods and apply them to practical situations and reports; solid accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP; proven competency working with various G/L accounting systems; meticulous attention to detail; and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
