Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is a pre-eminent academic health system based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is part of Advocate Health, which is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is the third-largest nonprofit health system in the United States, created from the combination of Atrium Health and Advocate Aurora Health. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s two main components are an integrated clinical system – anchored by Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, an 885-bed tertiary-care hospital in Winston-Salem – that includes Atrium Health Levine Children's Brenner Children’s Hospital, five community hospitals, more than 300 primary and specialty care locations and more than 2,700 physicians; and Wake Forest School of Medicine, the academic core of Atrium Health Enterprise and a recognized leader in experiential medical education and groundbreaking research that includes Wake Forest Innovations, a commercialization enterprise focused on advancing health care through new medical technologies and biomedical discovery.
The Audiology Department at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is part of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and offers comprehensive diagnostic testing and treatment for individuals across the lifespan. Our Winston Salem team includes 17 audiologists who are committed to providing quality, family-centered care and the use of best practices. We have three audiology locations that our externs have the opportunity to rotate through on a regular basis. Our pediatric clinic is located inside of the main hospital and provides both inpatient and outpatient services to infants and children. Services performed at this location include pediatric diagnostics, sedated and non-sedated ABRs, auditory processing evaluations, pediatric cochlear implants, osseointegrated devices, and inpatient newborn hearing care. Our adult clinic is located in Winston Salem across from the main hospital and provides diagnostic and rehabilitative care for the adult population including hearing aids, osseointegrated devices, cochlear implants, tinnitus assessment and management, and vestibular assessment. Our third clinic is located 15 minutes west of the city in Clemmons, and services both pediatrics and adults. Services provided at that location include adult and pediatric diagnostics, hearing aids, osseointegrated devices, and cochlear implants.
There are two externship positions available; externs will alternate weekly between the adult and pediatric clinics. Approximate division of patient experience is 50% adults, 50% pediatrics. This is a paid externship but does not include benefits.
