Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) has a fantastic career opportunity for a Research Associate to join the Rando Laboratory to design, implement, and lead innovative research in basic stem cell biology and the biology of aging.
The Rando laboratory is a part of the Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging and the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine, as well as the Rehab R&D Center of Excellence at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The laboratory is associated with the Stanford Center on Longevity. Dr. Thomas Rando, a renowned neurologist and stem cell biologist, has been recently named director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCLA.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Research Associate will contribute to the development and implementation of cutting-edge technologies in single cell analyses, imaging, and genetic mouse models in collaboration with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Thomas Rando and other talented research staff.
This is a full-time position, located in Palo Alto, CA. Position will be 100% on-site after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES OF A RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Perform advanced biological techniques and procedures involving rodents (mice), animal tissue, and cells.
Collaborate with the PI on the design and execution of laboratory experiments; Serve as the main contact for experiments.
Develop and validate experimental protocols.
Analyze data from experiments.
Prepare charts for presentations and publication.
Write papers on projects for publication.
Perform general lab organization.
Guide and train lab technicians.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Required: Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology or other related fields with 2+ years of postdoc experience;
Preferred: 3+ years of experience working with mice or rats; Ability to perform survival procedures on experimental animals; Ability to write animal protocols;
Desired: Hands-on experience with next generation sequencing library preparation workflows; Experience in flow cytometry;
Proficient in standard molecular biology techniques, such as handling and analysis of DNA, RNA and proteins; proficient in standard tissue and cell culture techniques;
Familiarity with microscopy-based analyses; such as histology or immunofluorescence of tissue sections or cells, confocal or epifluorescence microscopy;
Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and communication skills;
Exquisite record keeping and experimental documentation capabilities; Excellent organization skills;
Willingness to learn new techniques and adjust to new research environment;
Ability to work independently and proactively;
Ability to work within a team context and collaborate with other lab personnel.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Exposure to radiation, research animals, wet lab environment, and toxic/caustic chemicals or reagents.
