We are seeking a Software Developer. The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is a nonprofit center for innovation dedicated to advancing the field of gifted education through research on testing, programs, and other supports for advanced learners. We start from the premise that advanced learners come from every community and every demographic, and we aim to understand and inform how these students need to be nurtured to achieve their full potential as learners and global citizens.
General Position Summary
The developer will work with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Research Team to program a set of short interactive cognitive assessments with a pull system to embed into Moodle, a learning management system (LMS). They will be required to construct these interactive cognitive assessment tasks, implement the tasks in Moodle, and build a pull system for data collection.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Creating cognitive assessments using appropriate language/software.
Embedding these assessments with pull system into Moodle.
Communicating with the CTY Research Team regularly and with JHU software developers as needed.
All work will be done remotely.
Work hours are flexible, and we will expect the employee to work a total of 10 hours per week.
Five years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Experience with backend development using Flask.
Experience with databases and SQL.
Experience with Git, Python, Linux commands, and React Library.
Ability to communicate with the research team regarding specific task demands.
Ability to work effectively with other developers.
Ability to actively seek clarification when necessary.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong collaboration skills.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
Ability to think critically to create excellent user experience for participants completing online assessments in Moodle.
