The Graphic Designer supports the Utah Symphony | Utah Opera (USUO) Marketing, Communications, and Patron Services Department by providing expertise in creating, maintaining, and communicating USUO’s visual brand. Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing, the Graphic Designer will create and track visual content for promotional materials such as concert posters, brochures and other printed formats, digital ads, and websites, ensuring a consistent brand identity across all platforms. This position also supports in the creation of multimedia content, such as audio and video assets.
The Graphic Designer actively collaborates in the ideation and conceptualization process, offering clear rationale on the viability, limitations, and efficacy of visual concepts based on available creative resources. The individual will collaborate closely with members of the department, and colleagues across the organization, in planning creative assets to support ticket sales, fundraising, and brand awareness. As an essential member of an energetic and active department, success in this role requires a penchant for out-of-the-box thinking in design, a strong understanding of creating excitement and clarity of communication through visual design, strong interpersonal communication skills, a high level of organization, and the ability to prioritize and follow through on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Create and maintain a wide range of visual materials including but not limited to print and digital ads, brochures, posters, playbill content, social media graphics, and website components.
Under departmental leadership, help assess, advise on, and guide visual brand identity and guidelines that reflect USUO’s mission—creating a consistent image across all communication channels.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously from concept to completion, ensuring deliverables are accurate, on time, and adhere to details laid out in campaign plans; ensure final files are of the highest-quality and prepared for production.
Organize, update, and maintain USUO’s digital library of creative assets for current and future USUO initiatives (Symphony, Opera, Deer Valley® Music Festival [DVMF], tours, etc.).
Manage in-house printing and distribution/installation of all printed materials (fliers, posters, program inserts, etc.)
Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings to develop a widening understanding of projects and workflow in order to proactively assess and engage in project execution.
Support in the creation of multimedia assets by filming and performing light editing of video content, and occasionally cutting and mixing audio.
Serve as an in-house photographer as needed.
Facilitate transportation, setup, and tear-down of marketing displays at events.
Attend Utah Symphony, Utah Opera, and DVMF performances in rotation with others in the department and act as an official marketing/PR representative.
Perform other duties as assigned and required.
DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts, or communications with a strong emphasis on graphic design; or equivalent professional experience required.
Experience in a performing arts, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization preferred.
Strong understanding of marketing, communications, and brand positioning required.
Excellent creative skills and highly imaginative, as evidenced by a diverse portfolio; excellent understanding and control of layout, typography, and graphic design principles.
Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and comparable creative digital software.
Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities with a track record of meeting deadlines.
Experience with multimedia assets like motion graphics, simple video editing, gif creation, etc. strongly preferred.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative culture as well as work independently; self-starter.
Ability to prioritize tasks and remain flexible to department needs when appropriate.
Passionate and knowledgeable about symphonic music and opera.
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Prolonged periods of remaining stationary and working on a computer.
Moves equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
SALARY:
Starts at $55,0000-$58,000, plus excellent benefits
