The John Glenn College of Public Affairs is seeking a semester lecturer to teach undergraduate students in the Washington Academic Internship Program. Course assignments will include PUBAFRS 4020: Contemporary Issues in Governance and PUBAFRS 4021: Research Paper.
PUBAFRS 4020 is offered in-person in Washington, DC one evening per week each semester. PUBAFRS 4021 is an independent study advised by the instructor.
Performance Objectives
Lecturing and teaching the material presented in the course syllabi in a professional and engaging way that helps students learn and encourages them to come to class regularly.
Assigning grades and assessing student progress, potential and achievement in concrete, understandable ways toultimately helpthe student progress toward a degree.
Maintainingappropriate recordsin an organized, efficient manner for each class taught, andhavethis informationprepared for students at all times.
Cultivating a desire to build relationships, finding solutions toproblemsandbeing helpful and friendly at all times.
Creating a classroom environment where students feel comfortable participating and learning.
Setting up assessments based on departmental regulations and requirements.
Preparing students for assessments and providing helpful performance feedback including recommendingadditionalreadings and providing advice to students.
Providing extra support to students who require it and scheduling consultation times where questions and concerns can be voiced.
Keeping up to date with advancements in the field and integrating new knowledge into lessons.
Answering students questions and providingtimelyfeedback on assignments and essay drafts.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
Masters degree in a related field
Candidates must have experience working in or around the federal government.
Desired:
Candidates with teaching experience desired, which could be as a guest lecturer, teaching assistant, or training experience in industry such as training new employees or creating and presenting training sessions.
