Located in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center (SJHMC) is a 587 bed not-for-profit academic teaching hospital. St. Joseph’s is a nationally recognized center for quality quaternary care, medical education, and research. SJHMC is home to the internationally renowned Barrow Neurological Institute, Ivy Brain Tumor Center, Norton Thoracic Institute, Dignity Health-Cancer Institute (DHCI). SJHMC also offers a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a Level I Trauma Center that is certified by the American College of Surgeons. The adult ICU beds are divided between the neuro ICU, medical ICU, surgical ICU, trauma... ICU, and cardiothoracic ICU. The unique services offered at SJHMC draw complex patients from around the country. As a resident at St. Joseph’s, you will function as an integral part of multidisciplinary medical service teams by rounding, assisting in determining medical therapy, performing clinical consult and dosing services in phenytoin, warfarin, aminoglycosides and vancomycin, and assisting with medical education of providers and patients. Founded in 1895 by the Sisters of Mercy, St. Joseph’s was the first hospital in the Phoenix area and is now the flagship hospital in the Dignity Health system.
