Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR is looking for a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator. The Research Coordinator will support a DOD CDMRP grant that tests the efficacy of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) to alleviate pain and depression in Gulf War I patients with Gulf War Syndrome in a randomized clinical trial (RCT).
Duties include coordinating recruiting subjects, helping with using rTMS machine to stimulate designated area of the brain in the RCT after being trained by a professional, entering data in study databases, administering neuropsychological and neurophysiological testing and assisting with data analysis under the direct supervision by the Principal Investigator - Dr. Maheen Adamson.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Study Coordination:
- Manage study correspondence;
- Complete all study logs and case report forms;
- Communicate with Sponsor and Primary Site as needed, obtain and archive all regulatory documents required by Sponsors;
- Maintain IRB approval;
- Enroll patients, obtain informed consents, as well as all clinical data for study subjects;
- Coordinate patient visits;
- Coordinate any Sponsor visits;
- Administer neuropsychological tests, questionnaires, and collect medical information according to the study protocols.
Assist with performing brain scans:
- Guide student volunteers and patients to PET and MRI centers;
- Coordinate and assist in pre-scan safety screening for participant's safety, comfort and for research integrity.
Administer Testing:
- Use rTMS machine to stimulate designated area of the brain in the RCT during the treatment period, after being trained by a professional.
Facilitate collection of blood and cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers:
- Accompany study volunteers to clinical research unit for yearly blood draws and for biennial lumbar punctures performed by the study physician.
- Handle human specimens including tubes of blood, CSF, and screening urine sample.
- Package and ship samples for processing per the research protocol;
- Centrifuge and store genetic samples in freezer for shipping in batches;
Maintain Data:
- Maintain study binders containing clinical patient data;
- Enter all study data into research database;
- Maintain all electronic and paper files;
- Maintain data and coordinate data entry on Sponsor's online data entry sites;
- Perform other research related duties as needed.
- Order supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience);
- 2+ years of related experience collecting data and/or supporting research databases;
- Preferred: 1-2 years or more research experience with clinical trials;
- Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the research field gained through education or experience;
- Ability to understand and follow VA regulations and procedures regarding research;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook;
- Proficient with REDCAP desired;
- Experience in database management, e.g., Microsoft Access desired;
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing;
- Good interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with study subjects;
- Familiarity with clinical research;
- Ability to read and understand the study protocol;
- Ability to complete assigned tasks independently;
- Basic math/statistical skills;
- Knowledge of medical terms and abbreviations relevant to obtaining and coding medical history desired;
- Highly reliable with demonstrated organizational ability;
- Accurate record keeping and attention to detail.
