Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of three days per week. The manager will confirm the team?s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.
The Office of External Affairs encompasses three teams: 1) Communications and Marketing; 2) Development and Constituent Relations and 3) Finance and Administration.
The Finance and Administration team provides business operations support and includes administrative, finance, human resources, project management and special events professionals who work collaboratively with colleagues in Communications and Marketing and Development and Alumni Relations.

Reporting to the Sr. Principal and Major Gifts, the Sr. Associate Director of Prospect Management & Analytics serves as a subject matter expert on pipeline, prospect, and giving data sources from the JHAS system for fundraising purposes. This position has responsibility for the quality and accuracy of donor, and opportunity data and for development analytic and predictive analytic products including dashboards, SQL queries and reporting and analytics is Salesforce and Microsoft Power BI. This position will coordinate and maintain the day-to-day development and operation of the BSPH prospect and donor pipelines as part of overall Prospect Management strategies. This role involves collaborating with various teams to develop strategies for managing donor prospects, ensuring effective pipeline documentation, and leading initiatives to enhance portfolio management. Supervise the Assistant Director of Prospect Management.
Key responsibilities:
Prospect Management & Pipeline Development (30%):
Build and maintain systems, tools, processes, and strategies for continuous pipeline building and dynamic portfolio management.
Develop an aspirational prospect pool reflecting current strategy and intelligence on top principal and major donor prospects.
Manage a complex prospect management system to coordinate development efforts and provide accurate data/reporting on prospect lifecycle.
Make strategic recommendations for invite lists for campaign events and manage portfolios for fundraising staff.
Collaborate with fundraisers to improve predictive analytics, portfolio penetration, and Moves-Management flow.
Monitor and refine the internal philanthropic rating and pipeline process, its documentation, and associated training.
Regularly review and enhance pipeline outreach through a BSPH workgroup.
Serve on central DAR pipeline/data analysis committees.
Data Analytics, Visualization, and Reporting (25%):
Lead data analytics and performance measures?data collection, reporting, visualizations, and dissemination.
Engage in data exploration exercises using complex BI tools and relational databases.
Develop and report on KPIs to assess pipeline health and monitor prospect movement.
Use data visualization tools to develop dashboards, reports, maps, and tools for prospect analysis.
Work with OAS to build and revise dashboards that alert changes in prospect behavior.
Identify and recommend third-party tools to enhance prospecting and analysis capabilities.
Prospect Research and Intelligence (20%):
Oversee proactive prospect identification to find new major gift donors and volunteer leaders.
Compile comprehensive analytical reports with biographic, business, philanthropic, and financial data.
Monitor University Priority Prospects for changes that could influence relationships or giving capacity.
Research and recommend solicitation amounts for principal gift prospects.
Direct staff in gathering and reporting information on prospects and donors.
Identify improved systems for storing and disseminating research insights.
Strategy, Collaboration and Leadership (15%):
Work with the Senior Director to establish short- and long-term plans aligned with fundraising strategy.
Partner to enhance onboarding training tailored to BSPH?s needs.
Engage regularly with Central DAR/OAS/IT Teams on behalf of BSPH
Lead internal working groups focused on forecasting and data analysis.
Collaborate on campaign and strategic prospect planning.
Industry Trends, Tools and Continuous Learning (10%):
Keep abreast of industry trends, tools, and techniques for advancement analytics and research.
Conduct ongoing evaluation of innovative strategies and technologies.
Provide annual recommendations on new systems, tools, or process enhancements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Business or Data Science).
Five years of experience in prospect research, development operations, data analysis, or a related field.
Additional education may be substituted for experience and additional related experience may substitute for education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Master?s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Data Analytics, Philanthropy, or Administration).
5 years of experience in development or prospect research at a university or large nonprofit.
Deep knowledge of fundraising and development principles, particularly in higher education or public health.
Experience with Salesforce, Ellucian, Raiser?s Edge, or other CRM/database systems used in advancement.
Demonstrated experience using research tools and databases (e.g., WealthEngine, iWave, LexisNexis, or similar).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
Prior experience building dashboards or visual reports for leadership and using predictive analytics for pipeline development.
Familiarity with JHU systems and structure or experience working in large, decentralized institutions.
Experience leading cross-functional work groups or committees and presenting data findings to leadership.
Knowledge of philanthropic trends, including donor behavior, wealth indicators, and market research techniques.
