NYU?s Washington, DC Academic Center is seeking a local, part-time lecturer to teach a three credit undergraduate course, "Social Entrepreneurship," for summer and/or fall semesters of 2025.
The summer semester runs from May 19 to July 1. Classes may meet once, twice, or three times weekly, for a total of 31.5 hours over six weeks. We will discuss details with candidates during the interview process.
The fall semester runs from August 28 to December 4. Classes meet once a week, for 2 hours and forty minutes. In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and assessment, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute office hour per instruction day, during which the instructor will be available to meet with students.
The instructor role includes all preparation, delivery, and grading. Using Washington, DC as a learning tool (e.g., a guest speaker, an excursion) is an expectation for the course. Courses are to be intellectually challenging in content, and rigorous student assessment is required. Course Description:
Social Entrepreneurship is an emerging and rapidly changing business field that examines the practice of identifying, starting and growing successful mission-driven for-profit and nonprofit ventures?that is, organizations that strive to advance social change through innovative solutions. This course, rooted in stakeholder theory, is designed to provide a socially relevant academic experience in order to help students gain in-depth insights into economic and social value creation across a number of areas including poverty alleviation, energy, health and sustainability. Students will have the opportunity to find and test new ideas and solutions to social problems, create sustainable business models, identify funding options and alternatives, learn about evolving legal and governance structures, learn how to measure social impact and scale a social enterprise to name a few. This course will provide students with a toolkit and frameworks that can be used to start a social venture, applied within a social venture or within other types of organizations to influence social change.

All part-time instructors are expected to have a or terminal degree in the area of their teaching. Qualified applicants will ideally have 2-3 years of experience teaching at the university level. In some instances, significant professional expertise and experience in a relevant field will be considered a suitable qualification. The salary will be based on equivalent and appropriate part-time faculty rates for the course and location.
