The College of Saint Benedict (CSB) and Saint John?s University (SJU) invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit-eligible position of Chief of Staff and Mission Integration Officer.
The Chief of Staff and Mission Integration Officer for the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) and Saint John?s University (SJU), reporting to the president and serving as a member of the executive team, is responsible for coordinating and advancing the work of the Office of the President, overseeing the generative governance of the Boards of Trustees, and advancing institutional mission integration efforts. The Chief of Staff and Mission Integration Officer supports the president in leading an effective administrative team and realizing the CSB and SJU missions, visions, and strategic plan: Moving Forward, Together.
The Chief of Staff and Mission Integration Officer serves as a trusted thought partner and advisor to the president; oversees operations of the Office of the President; serves as the corporate secretary for the CSB and SJU Boards of Trustees; offers leadership and strategy guidance as senior facilitator and enabler of mission integration; serves as liaison to Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict and Saint John?s Abbey; manages government relations; and provides oversight of the legal portfolio, including Title IX.

Advisor to the President
Partner with the Provost and COO to provide strategic support on governance, mission integration, and institutional priorities.
Collaborate on policy and strategy development, implementation, and measurement.
Oversee institutional initiatives, programs, and projects supporting strategic goals.
Ensure the president remains informed of critical issues and events to guide decision-making.
Represent the Office of the President in critical incidents and risk management.
Coordinate agendas and follow up on key initiatives for leadership meetings.
Secretary to the Boards of Trustees
Serve as corporate secretary, ensuring compliance with CSB and SJU bylaws.
Facilitate trustee engagement, governance, and development activities.
Steward governing documents, including bylaws and agreements.
Collaborate with leadership to deliver high-quality trustee experiences and materials.
Mission Integration
Foster understanding and integration of CSB and SJU mission traditions across stakeholders.
Coordinate mission-related initiatives, hiring, and professional development.
Act as liaison to the founding monastic communities to strengthen relationships.
Oversee adherence to mission-based expectations and foundational documents.
Government Relations and Legal Oversight
Develop and implement legislative engagement strategies.
Coordinate institutional relations with state, federal, and local officials and organizations.
Shared oversight of legal and compliance matters, ensuring cost-effective resource deployment.
Support efforts to expand the institution?s external visibility and influence.
Shared Oversight of the Office of the President
Ensure operational efficiency and seamless functioning of the Office of the President.
Address emerging issues and delegate inquiries appropriately.
Fulfill delegated signatory responsibilities for financial and administrative matters.
Experience: Significant executive-level leadership, preferably in higher education; experience working with a Board of Trustees or nonprofit governing body.
Knowledge: Deep understanding of higher education governance, mission traditions (e.g., Benedictine values, Catholic intellectual traditions, liberal arts), and organizational development.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead strategically, mentor effectively, and drive change through innovation and human resource management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires working at a computer for extended periods, including typing, reading from a screen, and using various software programs essential for the role.
Occasionally required to lift or move items up to 10-15 pounds, such as office supplies or files, and to navigate within the office environment.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John?s University.
