Position Summary:
The Budget Analyst will join YU's Finance Department, working within the Budget team to support the University's mission through accurate and insightful financial planning and analysis. Reporting to the Director of Budget and Planning, the Budget Analyst will engage with department heads and deans, providing expertise in budget management and revenue/spending forecasts to support YU's academic and operational goals.
Position Responsibilities:
Partner closely with department heads and deans to review budget reports, analyze revenues and expenditures, and make forecast adjustments to ensure spending remains within budget and revenue targets are achieved
Develop, maintain, and refine financial models and budgets using Excel
Conduct detailed financial analysis, identifying trends and recommending adjustments to optimize budget performance
Prepare periodic and ad hoc financial reports, offering actionable insights to guide operating department-level and institutional decision-making
Provide training and support to operating department staff on budget-related queries, promoting a customer service approach to financial guidance
Collaborate with the Director of Budget and Planning and other Finance Department staff to implement financial strategies aligned with YU's mission and goals
Ensure adherence to University financial policies, governmental regulations, and industry best practices
Experience & Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
3-5 years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or a related financial role
Skills & Competencies:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with proven experience in financial modeling and data analysis
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong customer service orientation and ability to build rapport across various departments
High attention to detail and accuracy, with an analytical mindset and ability to work collaboratively within a team
Basic understanding of Accounting
Familiarity with higher education or nonprofit financial structures is a plus
Familiarity with the Banner Finance system is a plus
Salary Range:
$80,000 - $95,000
