About CAI

Founded in 1973, Community Associations Institute and its 64 U.S. and international chapters provide information, education and resources to the homeowner leaders and professionals who govern and manage homeowners associations, condominium communities and cooperatives. CAI’s 47,000-plus members include community association board members, other homeowner leaders, community managers, association management firms and other professionals who support common-interest communities. 

The Coachella Valley Chapter was founded in 1981, is composed of 11 directors, currently has over 800 members and has an annual budget of $460,000. Our mission is to provide the leadership for successful development and operation of community associations through information, research and education.  More information can be found on our chapter website at http://www.cai-cv.org.  

Position Overview

The Chapter Executive Director (CED) will be responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the chapter, ensuring its continued success and alignment with the strategic goals set by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will be the face of the chapter, engaging with members, partners, sponsors, and the broader community to support the mission. The CED must possess highly developed interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to build and maintain relationships with diverse communities, chapter volunteers and employees, organizations, government, media, and other interests.  

Key Responsibilities

• Administrative/Operations – The CED will be responsible for the day-to-day efficiency of the office to include but not limited to managing vendors, staff, supplies and equipment that support the chapter’s mission. The ED will also maintain corporate records, as well as accurate member records.
• Marketing, Public Relations and Communications - Serve as a key spokesperson and representative for the chapter at events, meetings, and with external stakeholders.  Develop and maintain strong relationships with members, sponsors, industry leaders, and government officials.  Ensure effective marketing, communications, and public relations strategies to enhance the chapter’s visibility and influence.  
• Strategic Planning – Provide visionary leadership to ensure the strategic growth and sustainability of the chapter. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the strategic plan. 
• Financials – Oversee financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and ensuring financial sustainability. 
• Membership Development – Drive membership growth and engagement through innovative programs and services.  
• Staff and volunteers - Lead staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance work culture. 
• Event Planning/Fundraising – Oversee planning of all education and networking events. Provide leadership in fundraising and sponsorship development efforts to secure resources for the chapter programs. 

Staff Relationships:  

The ED will report to the Chapter Board of Directors 
The ED will supervise administrative or programmatic staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.  
• 5+ years of leadership experience, preferably in nonprofit management, association management, or a related field.  
• Demonstrated success in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and operational management.  
• Proven ability to work effectively with a board of directors, volunteers, and a diverse member base.  
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Project and Adobe), websites and social media.
  CMP (Certified Meeting Planner) or CAE (Certified Association Executive) preferred.
   

Competencies

• Excellent organizational planning skills and ability to multi-task.
• Strong organizational and communication and interpersonal skills (i.e. ability to prioritize, delegate, adapt, etc.) 
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
• Strong financial acumen (includes budget experience)   
• Experience with fundraising, sponsorship development, and revenue generation.  
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge or familiarity of community associations is a plus.

 Physical and Work Requirements:

• Applicant is required to drive his/ her own car and must maintain a good driving record.  
• Applicant may be called upon to lift, move or carry objects that weigh up to and include fifty pounds.
• Applicant understands he/she must work inside, as well as outside, sometimes facing inclement weather conditions in the performance of his/her job duties.
• Applicant further acknowledges that his/her duties may be changed at the company discretion based upon the decision of the Board of Directors.
