Residency Special Features:The resident will primarily practice with the family medicine inpatient service and family medicine outpatient clinic. Experiences in teaching, writing, and research skills will be included. Opportunities for didactic, small-group, and case-based teaching are available. Required components of the program include family medicine, ambulatory care, critical care medicine, transplant medicine, cardiology, infectious disease, academia, practice management/medication safety, drug information/drug use policy, hospital pharmacy practice and the completion of a project. Multiple inpatient and outpatient opportunities are available as elective experiences.

Site Special Features:The University of Tennessee Medical Center is a 685-bed acute care teaching hospital. It serves the entire East Tennessee region, providing all general and specialty clinical services and carries a Level I trauma center designation, supported by an aeromedical helicopter program. The medical center campus includes the UT Graduate School of Medicine and the UTHSC College of Pharmacy. The pharmacy staff provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, through decentralized pharmacist teams supported by pharmacist specialists in a wide variety of clinical areas. Additionally, there are satellite pharmacies in the operating room and oncology areas, as well as a full-service retail/specialty pharmacy. Ambulatory care is provided via specialty services to the patients in primary care clinics, Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, Rheumatology Clinic, Heart Failure Clinic, and the Renal Transplant Clinic among others.
Special Requirements for Acceptance:Eligibility for Tennessee licensure as a registered pharmacist, college transcripts, letter of intent, curriculum vitae, 3 letters of recommendation (prefer at least 2 letters are from preceptors with whom the candidate has worked in a clinical setting on APPE rotation, particularly in acute care or ambulatory care settings), PharmD degree from United States accredited college of pharmacy, United States citizenship or permanent residency.
