The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Department of Religious Studies invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Religion and Public Life to begin August 2025. PhD in Religious Studies or related field and relevant teaching experience are preferred, but ABDs in the final stages of completing their dissertations will be considered.
This faculty member will coordinate the Religious Studies Department?s Religion and Nonprofit Leadership Major, Minor, and Certificate. This will include regularly teaching the core courses "Religion and Nonprofit Leadership" and "Religion and the Workplace" as well as advising student internships. This position carries a 2-2 teaching load, and the faculty member will teach other religious studies courses in their area of expertise. They will also be expected to contribute to the service expectations of the department and should also maintain an active research agenda in the academic study of religion and public life.

Based in the Department of Religious Studies, this position is part of a new constellation of interdisciplinary faculty positions in the UT College of Arts and Sciences emphasizing Envisioning and Narrating Emerging Futures (ENEF). We are seeking tenure-line faculty who will have overlapping interests that foster faculty development and collaboration. The goal is to bring together faculty across departments whose research, scholarship and creative work is linked and who can bring different perspectives to an important issue or area. To achieve this goal, the College intends to invest additional resources in faculty hired through searches that fall within one of these constellations (https://artsci.utk.edu/about/faculty-initiatives/).
