POSITION SUMMARY:
The Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) is seeking a qualified Grants Officer. This position is responsible for reviewing, endorsing, submitting, and monitoring grant applications for university faculty on behalf of the University. Review includes verifying budgets and ensuring conformance with sponsor, governmental, and internal requirements. The position is also responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and processing sponsored award modifications from federal, state, and nonprofit funding agencies. Qualified applicants should be familiar with federal grant agency policies such as the NIH, NSF, DoD. Strong customer service and organizational skills are required, along with professionalism, tact, discretion, and initiative to succeed in this fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
The Office also hosts two student research symposiums, coordinates participation and partially funds participation in external student research symposiums, funds small research projects when funding allows and guides students through the application process for fellowships and scholarships.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews and submits grant applications to various federal and state agencies (e.g., the NSF, NIH, Dept of Ed, DOJ, DOD, Dept of Energy, PA Dept of Health, PA Dept of Ed, etc.)
Processes prior approval requests with sponsors.
Engages in outreach to federal agencies as needed.
Assists with subcontracts.
Engages with post-award accounting as needed.
Prepares professional sponsored project correspondence and resolves inquiries and issues.
Ensures compliance with university and sponsor requirements.
Maintains electronic research administration internal files.
Assists ORI team with other research-related responsibilities.
Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Business from an accredited institution and 1-3 years of work-related experience.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in higher education, specifically research administration. The candidate must have an intimate understanding of rules and regulations governing federal applications and awards. The candidate should have systems or database experience, or a strong desire to learn such skillsets.
Combination of education and relevant experience will be considered in lieu of education and/ or experience requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management or Education from an accredited institution.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Three years of experience in research administration, higher education, or higher education administration.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Highly developed problem-solving skills, adaptability, and ability to work under short deadlines and in stressful situations.
Highly collaborative nature.
