About the Program: Postdoctoral Fellowships for Academic Diversity at the University of Pennsylvania and CHOP are competitive programs designed to enhance diversity within the academic research community. While the Penn and CHOP programs share a common application form, they have separate funding sources and review processes. These fellowships provide promising researchers and educators with mentored scholarly and research training. The goal is to prepare fellows for faculty positions in major universities or appointments in other sectors such as industry, government, or nonprofit organizations.
Fellowship Focus: The programs are designed to welcome candidates from a wide array of backgrounds and experiences. Individuals from all walks of life are encouraged to apply, ensuring a rich tapestry of perspectives and talents. Each unique journey and experience is valued, and there is a strong anticipation of how new members can contribute to the vibrant community.
Research Opportunities: Fellowships are available across all relevant study areas at either Penn or CHOP.

Stipend and Benefits:
The 2025-2026 stipend rate starts at $66,300 in year one, with $2,000 increases in years two and three.
Allowances: Fellows receive annual allowances for research and travel-related expenses ($7,000) and, if eligible, a one-time relocation expense (up to $5,000).
Benefits: Accepted postdoctoral fellows receive a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications
Candidates must be US citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients
Graduate students from Penn and other institutions who have completed, or will complete their requirements for Ph.D. by the fellowship start date
Postdoctoral scholars from other institutions who have completed their doctoral degree within the last two years
Professional applicants who have (M.D., D.M.D., V.M.D., J.D., DSW, DVM, etc.) within a year of completing their post-degree professional training or terminal degree in their discipline
Postdocs, residents, and fellows who currently have a position at Penn or CHOP, or applicants who currently hold a faculty position at another institution are ineligible for this program.
