The Human Resources Generalist Provides comprehensive administrative support to the HR department. The HR Coordinator will assist with implementation of HR Programs and initiatives, and contribute to the attainment of specific goals of the HR Office and of the College. This position may be assigned special projects as required.
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions
Provides employee assistance and information for a wide variety of human resources issues to include payroll, benefits, and policy;
Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions in person, by phone, or by email.
Provides administrative assistance to the Chief Human Resources Officer
Verifies I-9 documentation and collect new hire paperwork
Assists with preparation of newsletters and other campus-wide correspondences
Organizes and maintains employee personnel files and information.
Prepares photocopies, fax documents and perform other clerical functions.
Processes mail for the department;
Creates, maintains, and stores human resources records;
Creates various reports and documents to provide current personnel information;
Actively works with staff in maintaining a positive employee relations climate;
Assists in processing employment verifications and reference checks
Orders and maintains an adequate inventory of office equipment and supplies;
Answers main telephone line; and
Performs computer data entry and electronic file maintenance
A minimum of two years of office work experience required. Two years of work experience in human resources desired;
Must have good attendance and be reliable;
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of customers required;
Must have strong organizational skills, demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, work independently, and the ability to meet deadlines for time sensitive assignments;
Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality; ability to handle sensitive material concerning the organization.
Demonstrated oral and written communications skills with the ability to handle conflict and employee complaints. Must have excellent interpersonal relationship skills;
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities; and
Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and Power Point required. Knowledge of Colleague software highly desired.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually. Frequent interaction with others, including staff, faculty, students and third parties is required. The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places. The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required.
