The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) was established in 2002 and has become the hub of human rights study at New York University School of Law, the top-ranked program for international law in the U.S. and one of the premier law schools in the world. CHRGJ aims to generate substantive and cutting-edge contributions to human rights research and legal scholarship; and make original and constructive contributions to ongoing public debates relating to human rights.
Ongoing organizational efforts
The CHRGJ at NYU Law is seeking a coordinator to coordinate and support our ongoing organizational efforts ensuring efficient implementation of the Center's financial, operational and event management dimensions.
The Center has in place a distinctive hub-like organizational structure that allows its members to carry Center-wide programs, as well as initiative/clinic/project-specific efforts in a semi-autonomous way yet be able to seek support from the Center's core team in administrative, operational and events dimensions.
The Center has taken the following steps to enhance our organizational strategy:
Hired an executive director who works closely with the Chair of the Center on all strategic, programmatic, personnel, managerial and communications efforts
Developed an internal student program to support various initiatives and projects housed within the Center in areas of operations and event management
Centralized collaboration efforts using Google Workspace to ensure a timely and effective flow of activities, tasks and programmatic needs among involved parties.
The Center also carries its operational tasks by working closely with various NYU units that are critical partners in this process including but not limited to:
NYU School of Law: Office of Financial Management, Law Human Resources, Facilities, Catering, Tech and IT, Dean's Office Institutional Events, Communications among others
Office of Global Services (OGS)
University-wide and NYU Law housed-centers, institutes, and clinics
Scope of work
The finances, operations and events coordinator will report directly to the executive director and support in these three main areas. Their overall responsibilities include:
Liaising with various CHRGJ and NYU Law parties, as well as community partners as needed to ensure implementation of all operational dimensions needed for financial, programs and event dimensions.
Completing fundamental and ensuring continued learning of all NYU specific training for operational, managerial and financial tasks to comply with NYU and NYU Law parameters.
Working with the executive director and team leaders to learn needs and facilitating cross-channel information between team leaders and the executive director
Keeping our internal and external calendars and timelines up to date including tracking associated project management tasks.
Organizing, filing and maintaining administrative records for future reference and process development ensuring consistency.
Understanding and embracing processes of communications channels including website management content (WordPress, Squarespace), social media, newsletters (Mailchimp), as well as graphic design and printing in order to coordinate and incorporate those dimensions into the operational process.
Identifying potential problems, points of friction, troubleshooting and finding solutions through the various processes.
Supporting the executive director in various tasks as assigned.
Finances
Planning for, processing, reconciling and reporting financial activities related to pertinent projects, programs or initiatives
Handling procurement, billing, reimbursements and all transactions related to purchasing and corporate cards associated with the Center and its projects
Onboarding vendors, drafting independent contract agreements and pursuing, and establishing financial practices that allow the Center to acquire its goods and services
Maintaining internal budgets, transactions and costs forecasts when planning events and activities
Operations
Ensuring all operations pertaining to CHRGJ core and project-related tasks are carried on in an appropriate, timely and cost-effective way.
Finding ways and using best practices to improve operations and internal processes.
Arranging domestic and international travel for the Center's team members as well as guests hosted for various programs and events associated with the Center.
Purchasing materials, planning inventory and overseeing projects' material needs.
Maintaining records and documentation, confidentiality of information.
Sustaining and enforcing precise processes to ensure consistency of operations.
Liaising with the Office of Global Services to support CHRGJ visa-related matters.
Events
Joining the event planning process at various stages of the development phases.
Coordinating with internal and external parties on planning dimensions to ensure smooth flow of communications resulting in a successful implementation of each event.
Leading all event planning activities related to the CHRGJ core-projects. This includes but is not limited to two annual in-person events of 200 attendees, a series of semester-specific talks featuring guest speakers, and student-oriented events including an open house at the start of the academic year and a celebration of community at the end of the academic year.
Supporting on-demand event planning activities related to CHRGJ-associated projects and clinics. This would vary in terms of modality and size based on each project's needs.

Compensation and modality
Based on the applicant's experience; salary ranging from $66-70,000 including benefits.
The position is full-time, in-person, and based at NYU in New York City:
CHRGJ office hours are Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ET)
Events coordination require work outside those office hours
Remote flexibility of up to 2 consistent days per week, determined in consultation with the executive director
Weekly meeting with the executive director to discuss priorities and goals
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
BA degree in management, business, operations, finance, public relations, economics, nonprofit, human rights, global affairs, or administrative-related field
3 years of full-time employment experience in working with organizations and entities of related fields such as research centers and institutes, higher education, nonprofit, and/or human rights organizations.
Ideal candidates should be able to:

Demonstrate affinity and interest in working in a space dedicated for human rights and global justice.
Understand the realities and nuances of working with passionate and talented teams operating in a varying range of organizational approaches.
Follow instructions, tasks and expectations as assigned including taking responsibility for tasks implicitly associated with each assignment.

Be methodical and able to develop processes in ambiguous scenarios.
