The Publications Manager and Editor is the school’s lead writer and editor, creating marketing collateral, the alumni magazine, and a range of other content – from web stories to email newsletters to ads and reports. This position is central to bringing GFS’ mission to life for a variety of key audiences as well as inspiring interest, engagement, and support.
Responsibilities
Find compelling and creative ways to bring the GFS experience to life for a variety of audiences, through a broad range of content: from press releases to feature stories, and talking points to scripts.
Serve as editor for Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer GFS Bulletin (alumni magazine)
Collaborate with Communications and Marketing colleagues to update and produce signature marketing pieces on a range of GFS programs.
Develop annual ad copy to promote GFS brand—with particular focus on Admissions and Summer Camps (print, radio, online)
Review/edit and help develop concepts for fundraising appeals and stewardship letters
Support Development with planning/editing/writing alumni digest e-newsletter
Resident author/editor of key communications to the community as well as periodic media stories/press releases, as needed
Resident proofreader/copy editor for the Advancement Department, including a weekly e-newsletter to families, key donor reports, and acknowledgment letters
Collaborate with multimedia (video and photo) to develop creative strategy, concepts,and scripts
Direct and plan 1-2 photoshoots/year with outside photographers and work closely with in-house multimedia team to ensure strategic visual alignment.
Contributes to other special projects, such as campaign collateral development
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in English or related field required.
A minimum of 5-7 years in a communications, magazine, or publications role required.
Significant and exceptional writing experience and agility, ideally for magazine or newspaper.
Flexible, resourceful, creative, detail?oriented, and proactive with strong interpersonal skills.
Availability to attend/staff some evening and weekend events, including Open House and Alumni Weekend, among others.
Experience working in a Quaker educational institution or nonprofit, a plus.
