JOB SUMMARY:
Community-Engaged Teaching and Research (CETR) is a part of Education Innovation in the Office of the Chancellor and is a form of experiential learning at Northeastern. This team supports service-learning courses, community-engaged research, and other experiential learning opportunities with curricular objectives. Through student leadership programs, faculty development, and community partnership building, CETR facilitates meaningful experiences for students, faculty members, and community partners. The CETR team has been nationally recognized as a top service-learning program and is a regular contributor to international dialogues around advancing the field of service-learning and community engagement in higher education.
This position helps shape CETR's strategic engagement with community partners and student leaders as they support ethical community engagement throughout our collective teaching and research partnership work. The Assistant Director will work with the Associate Director to align evaluation and assessment practices with team goals and university priorities. In collaboration with the Program Manager, the Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring that CETR programming, stakeholder support, project development, and operations are implemented. The responsibilities detailed in the position description below are illustrative of the main areas of the duties of this position; however, as Northeastern is a fast-paced, ever-evolving organization, the needs of the role are subject to revision as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Program Focus/Area Management & Oversight
Lead service-learning course engagement and support through development of community partnership methods, student leadership, and course design.
Collaborate with Program Manager as they implement programmatic and administrative support across community partners and student leaders.
Bring ideas and insights to staff meetings and leadership and seek out opportunities to implement and assess the work of CETR.
Provide oversight for the Virtual EXPO to capture and document digital artifacts from 50+ partnerships between Northeastern service-learning courses and community partners each semester. Coordinate with Program Manager and Undergraduate assistants to ensure implementation.
Strategic Stakeholder Engagement
Oversee coordination of student leadership programs, including hiring, training, and facilitation of curriculum for 50+ students each semester.
Create and oversee partnership development with over 100 community-based organizations.
Contribute to design and implementation of student leader and faculty teaching partnerships in support of service-learning courses.
Select, train, and support upper class student leaders as Team Managers to guide teaching assistants each semester.
Coordinate with faculty network to ensure implementation of best practices in service-learning through student leaders.
Evaluation and Assessment
Manage and implement evaluation process for current programming. Create and administrator evaluations and assessment across engagement areas and utilize data to make evidence-based proposals for program changes to inform growth and strategic alignment.
In partnership with University and Division-wide data analytics teams, map evaluation and assessment strategy to university priorities and measures.
Enhance strategies to document and assess impact of community engagement for students and the community while supporting an institutional narrative of community engagement.
Communications & Campus Collaboration
Manage and collaborate with communications assistant to oversee social media and connection platforms to share large-scale email communication, promotional/resource materials, and other network storytelling.
Maintain and update communications platforms across stakeholder network.
Work with Division-wide operations team to implement strategic communications plan. Align messaging with CETR goals and priorities.
Contribute to the work of teams across the division and other community engagement staff. Represent CETR on division-wide committees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree
5 years work experience at an institution of higher education, public education setting, or in the nonprofit sector
Prior experience in curriculum development and design, experience design, and utilizing technology to support learning experiences, including ability to design, facilitate, and assess workshops in varying formats.
Experience working with student leaders and demonstrated experience with assessing and evaluating programs.
Qualifications
