Summary: The analyst, government affairs will be responsible for legislative analysis, technical assistance, and other activities to support ASTHO???s federal government affairs efforts. **This is not a lobbying position**
Location: Washington, DC area
Anticipated salary: $63,000 Extended experience: up to $70,500 if experience exceeds expectations
Principal Functions:
Attends and provides high-level summaries about Congressional hearings, briefings, and other events with Congress and the Administration
Assists in the development of legislative alerts in collaboration with the government affairs team to ensure content is accurate, timely, and relevant
Conducts legislative analysis on priority legislation
Supports preparations of ASTHO members for Congressional hearings including the development of background documents
Develops and maintains relevant materials and links for the website and my.ASTHO pages
Assists with contract administration including development, expense tracking, payment, and tracking of deliverables
Assists with planning and implementation of ASTHO???s annual advocacy day including collaboration across the organization; scheduling meetings for state health officials; and developing documents and related training material
Schedules conference calls, creates and/or distributes minutes from conference calls to support the ASTHO government relations committee
Provides administrative support to senior leadership of the team including managing calendar, printing, and on-site support for meetings
Collects, enters, and updates data for operations plans, communications metrics, sign-on letters, technical assistance and other data for team review
Performs research and prepares briefing materials, including state and territorial advocacy fact sheets
Attends and provides summary notes from coalition meetings and partner meetings on an as needed basis
Collaborates across the GA/PR/SHP team to ensure cohesion and alignment of activities and messaging
Qualifications:
Bachelor???s degree in political science, communications or policy preferred
Minimum 1-3 years experience working on Capitol Hill preferred
Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite virtual meeting and collaboration platforms
Knowledge about the congressional appropriations process and federal health agencies such as HHS, CDC, HRSA, SAMHSA, and FDA preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple and diverse priorities with positive outcomes
Must live in the Washington, DC area
