Clinical or Teaching Assistant Professor in Macro Social Work-Leadership and Social Change
School of Social Work We are seeking an instructor to join our faculty as a Clinical or Teaching Assistant Professor in Macro Social Work with a focus on the Leadership and Social Change specialization. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing the School of Social Work's commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. This specialized faculty position is non-tenure-track.
The instructor will primarily be responsible for teaching courses in the Leadership and Social Change specialization, collaborating other instructors in the specialization to provide students with an understanding of macro-level social work practices and preparing them to be effective leaders in driving positive social change. The successful candidate will be expected to:
Teach in-person and online undergraduate and graduate-level courses in macro social work areas such as, leadership, social change strategies, policy and legislative advocacy, community organizing, social entrepreneurship, and program evaluation.
Develop and update course syllabi, incorporating contemporary trends, technological advances, and evidence-based practices in the field of macro social work.
Design and implement innovative teaching methods to engage students actively in the learning process, fostering critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills.
Mentor and advise students in the Leadership and Social Change specialization, providing academic and career guidance.
Collaborate with other faculty members in the development of interdisciplinary course offerings and research projects.
Engage in scholarly activities and contribute to the field of macro social work through research, publications, and conference presentations.
Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and involvement in community partnerships.
Minimum Qualifications:
A master's in social work (MSW) with a minimum of three years of experience in macro social work or related fields or doctoral degree (Ph.D., DSW) in Social Work or a related field with a focus on macro social work. Demonstrated expertise in macro social work practice, leadership, community development, and social change. Prior experience in teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Strong commitment to student-centered teaching, mentorship, and fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Evidence of research potential or scholarly contributions in the field of social work or related areas. Experience in community-based or policy-related work will be considered an asset. The ability to teach in-person classes at the Urbana-Champaign campus as well as online classes is required.
About the Leadership and Social Change Specialization
The Leadership and Social Change (LSC) area of specialized practice prepares students for advanced practice the change social systems, including communities, organizations, and policies. It encompasses various practices such as program development, community organizing, policy analysis, legislative advocacy, and program evaluation. Our curriculum also integrates international social work, social entrepreneurship, and collaboration with non-profit organizations. It prepares students for careers in advocacy, policy practice, administration, international social development, nonprofit management, and community organizing. Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic position, appointed on a 9/12-month basis. A hybrid work schedule may be considered for this position. The expected start date is December 1, 2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
