Summary for the Systems Engineer Position
The Systems Engineer is responsible for the overall design, installation, administration, optimization, support, training, needs analysis and procurement of enterprise messaging systems. In addition, the Systems Engineer is responsible for configuration, operation and administration of any server hardware, operating systems and any monitoring systems as they relate to the messaging infrastructure at the firm.
The Systems Engineer manages the configuration, operation and administration of any server hardware, operating systems, antivirus, archiving, replication software, site recovery software and any monitoring systems as they relate to any of the assigned platforms (Microsoft Exchange, Exchange Online, Mimecast, AirWatch, Thycotic, Active Directory or Azure Active Directory, etc.) at the firm. They are also responsible for maintaining workflow and procedures for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity procedures and methods to recover firm data or systems. The Systems Engineer maintains professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and firm matters.

Contribute to the overall success of the infrastructure team by providing oversight, security, cost management and other improvements of corporate messaging platform, Azure IAAS, Azure PAAS and by streamlining recurring administrative efforts.
Messaging systems include but are not limited to the following systems: e-mail, calendar, SPAM prevention, hygiene or antivirus for messaging systems, mobile messaging services, instant messaging and email archiving.
Ensure all cloud solutions adhere to the firm’s security policies and Microsoft Azure best practices. Microsoft Azure and M365 systems include but are not limited to the following platforms or systems; Exchange Online, Azure IAAS, Azure PAAS, Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Database Migration service, Azure Cost Management, Exchange Online in a hybrid configuration with Exchange 2019.
Interface daily with other IT technical staff and will be working on assignments and delivered services related to their area of responsibility.
Primary responsibility for the setup, implementation and day-to-day operational support of the following products: Microsoft Exchange Server 2019, Exchange Online, Microsoft Cluster Services, Microsoft Windows 2019/2022, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Azure IAAS, Microsoft Azure PAAS, DNS Services, DHCP Services, Thycotic Privilege Account Management software, Mimecast Email Security Platform and other third party software as they may apply to Active Directory or the messaging environment.
Oversee and conduct migrations from on premise to Azure using best practices for both Azure IAAS and Azure PAAS. Monitor resources and usage to optimize costs and recommend any cost-saving measures.
Ensure all cloud solutions adhere to the firm’s security policies and Microsoft best practices.
Responsible to troubleshoot, optimize Exchange performance, perform Exchange database maintenance, exchange database backups and restore, Exchange mailbox archiving, Exchange queues monitoring and recovery of a corrupted Exchange information store.
Plan, configure and manage the installation of hardware, network connections and communications that directly support and administrates messaging environment as required.
Evaluate, select, integrate and implement new messaging technologies, tools and techniques. Review and analyze vendor supplied utilities, software packages and engineering releases for the environment.
Remain abreast of emerging technology and maintain technical competency of IT infrastructure.
Responsible for other administration tasks that may include license management, access management, upgrading & patching, troubleshooting and tuning for specific application components.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related specialty and four or more years of Microsoft Exchange Messaging experience related to the design, installation and maintenance of messaging platforms, Azure and M365 platforms preferably in a large legal or professional services firm; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have experience with supporting compliance and legal requirements in a messaging environment.
Must possess substantial experience designing, implementing and maintaining messaging infrastructure based on Microsoft Exchange 2019 servers or Exchange Online, VMWare AirWatch MDM/Microsoft ActiveSync servers. Additionally, should have previous experience with messaging protocols (SMTP, IMAP, POP3), security or hygiene products (TrendMicro or Mimecast), backup products (Symantec Netbackup, Cohesity or Zerto Replication Manager) as well as a solid understanding of underlying network, server, storage and cloud technologies.
Additional experience recommended for this position includes in-depth knowledge of Azure services and tools including Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Database Migration service, ARM templates, Azure CLI and should be proficient in scripting languages such as PowerShell.
Superior analytical and technical skills with an aptitude for detail, precision, and logic with comprehensive knowledge of software engineering in order to conduct detailed analyses of complex systems software and perform essential duties fundamental to the position.
Exhibit high degree of initiative in exercising independent judgment with demonstrated troubleshooting, follow-through, and critical-thinking skills in order to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, and consistently changing work environment with the ability to make decisions based upon results of research.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy and efficiently follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to provide technical support and training to a diverse group of users having different levels of computer expertise including attorneys, support staff, and clients. In addition, maintain effective relationships with vendors and consultants.
Excellent organizational skills including record keeping, data collection, and system information.
Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute technology-related items, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
Work occasionally requires more than 37.5 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
Occasional travel to other Firm locations may be required.
