The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Human Biology Division of Fred Hutch and the Department of Radiation Oncology at the UW School of Medicine. The primary appointment will be in the Human Biology Division or other appropriate scientific Division of Fred Hutch. The successful candidate will be expected to advance the department's mission of clinical care, research, education, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). The selected candidates will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington as an Assistant, Associate, or full Professor without tenure by reason of funding on the Clinician-Scientist track, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024 or earlier. Academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate or Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
We are seeking a physician-scientist who is a board certified or board eligible Radiation Oncologist and who has a laboratory research effort in an academic laboratory-based program relevant to the field of radiation oncology (e.g. cancer biology, radiation biology, immunology, cancer genomics, tumor microenvironment, radiation response in normal tissue/tumor, translational research, etc.).
This faculty position will have a focus in translational research with significant support and protected time for laboratory work with some additional expectation of clinical care and teaching. Teaching responsibilities will involve oversight of residents during outpatient rotations, participation in the resident didactic curriculum, and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.
The area of clinical focus will be determined by the programmatic needs of the Department, as well as the area of expertise in the case of established investigators. Experience in complex radiation treatment planning and delivery (VMAT, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT)/stereotactic radiosurgery, IGRT, proton therapy etc.) are desired.
Fred Hutch is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

NOTE: This position may require work to be performed on-site at a Fred Hutch Cancer Center (FHCC) facility. FHCC requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at a FHCC facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The FHCC policy does not provide for religious or medical exemptions. UW Medicine and its partner institutions (UWMC, FHCC including its Proton Center, Seattle Children's Hospital, VA Puget Sound, Harborview Hospital) provide an extensive and outstanding array of radiation oncology modalities for cancer patients. The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients annually from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy. Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics, tumor boards and disease specific chart rounds. We are a part of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and have strong translational and clinical research collaborations. The Department has 33 physicians, 8 advanced practice providers, 28 physicists, and 3 research faculty. Educational opportunities in our residency programs, fellowship programs and post-doctoral fellowships abound. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in research and education and to collaborate with the multidisciplinary clinical teams.

This position is paid directly by Fred Hutch and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to Fred Hutch for information about compensation for this position.
The successful applicant must have an MD or a DO, or foreign equivalent, and be board certified or eligible in Radiation Oncology with the American Board of Radiology (ABR); candidates who are ABR board eligible must become board certified within two years of faculty appointment. Applicants will have completed their residency in an ACGME accredited program. Must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington.
