What will you be doing:
The Senior Physician Assistant (PA-C) provides high quality, efficient, team-based patient focused care under the direction of a board certified/eligible physician. The Sr. PA works in collaboration with surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other medical staff and clinically manages patients as determined by the Supervising Physician. Clinically responsible for provision, coordination, and assurance of comprehensive medical /surgical care using sound medical/surgical knowledge and pertinent standards of care.
Under the supervision of the Marina del Rey Hospital (MDRH) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Medical Director and within the physician assistant’s competence, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides preliminary assessment/evaluation in the ICU.
- Clinically responsible and accountable for the application of the PA standard of care and scope process. This will include patient care, consultative services, education (patient, family, and self), and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and / or ICU Medical Director.
- Performs appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for identification and management of patient diagnosis following established standardized protocols within the scope of practice of a Physician Assistant and with approved privileges.
- Examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examination, and preoperative history, orders diagnostic tests, reviews results and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examinations. Reports to the surgeon as needed, all in a timely manner.
- Develops and implement patient management plans and assist in provision of continuity of care.
- Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other teams to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that improves individual patient/family preference and enhances quality, access, and efficient outcomes.
- Facilitates patient discharge; dictates discharge and transfer summaries in a timely manner.
- Writes orders with respect to patient care under the direction of the Supervising Physician.
- Documents patient care services within the Epic and when within their scope of practice and active medical privileges, perform surgical procedures.
- Participates in research and educational activities that will improve professional development including attending continuing education programs relevant to area of practice and participating in professional organizations.
- Assesses quality of patient care delivery and finds opportunities for changes in practice, rooted in evidence-based standards of care/protocols, which promote positive patient outcomes.
- Initiates emergency resuscitation and stabilization as vital in compliance with hospital safety regulations and infection control.
Experience Requirements:
Three (3)+ years' experience as a Physician Assistant.
Five (5)+ years of experience managing critical care patients preferred.
ICU experience required.
Educational/Licensure/Certifications Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
CA Physician Assistant License
National Commission Certification of PAs (NCCPA)
Current DEA license and Furnishing Number or eligibility to acquire
Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS) certification
