About the Opportunity:
Brown Universityâ™s School of Professional Studies (SPS) brings a Brown education to new audiences of learners: those focused on development of skills and a breadth of knowledge necessary for professional success and leadership. We leverage Brownâ™s intellectual centers of excellence, rigorous teaching, and developmental approach to learning in a range of programs, including serving students outside of traditional degree programs. We partner with Brown departments, centers, institutes, and schools to develop degree and non-degree programs, and to support the recruitment, retention, and placement success of masterâ™s students, including traditional, non-traditional, and professional students.

The primary purpose of the Associate Director of Career Services and Professional Development for Masterâ™s Students position is to lead, direct, and execute the strategy for expanded professional development, career progression, and interdisciplinary educational initiatives for the entire population of 1500+ masters students enrolled in more than 30 programs. The career and professional development responsibilities will aid early career and executive masterâ™s students in their career goals and professional development needs by serving both as a gateway to campus resources and providing direct services. The incumbent will partner across the University, including through regular coordination with the CareerLab and Graduate school. to provide strategic direction for career services that meet the current employment landscape.Â
Job QualificationsÂ
Education and Experience
Masterâ™s degree and 5-7 years related experience or equivalent combination education and experience. A doctoral degree is preferred.
Job Competencies
Significant experience counseling students in a higher education environment
Experience working with international graduate students preferred
Experience working with historically underrepresented and first-generation graduate students preferred
Knowledge of needs of graduate students in STEM fields preferred
Professional networking knowledge and understanding of and experience with organizational recruiting and talent development (for profit and nonprofit); knowledge of specific clusters of industries.
Ability to build relationships leading to engagement of alumni and employers with Brown, students, and faculty.
Ability to develop and execute relevant programs for students, employers, and other constituencies.
Collaborative work style; strong team player; open-mindedness, inclusiveness and flexibility; ability to work and build collaborations with diverse communities.
Outward focus, change orientation, initiative, and ability to execute and sustain new efforts; focus on learning, data and assessment, documentation, constant improvement, and ownership and accountability.
