- This position reports directly to and works closely with the SPS Supervisor to provide operation expertise and leadership to assure patient care activity is thoroughly and consistently supported in a timely manner.
- Provide operational leadership for the Specimen Processing Group. Responsible for direct oversight and coordination of staff training.
- Maintains departmental compliance with regulatory requirements by ensuring SOPs are up to date and routinely utlized by staff. Organizes and coordinates Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Works independently in performing daily work responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Performs duties of Specimen Processing Services Lead, Specimen Processing Services Specialist II, and Specimen Processing Services Specialist I
- Performs specimen processing of blood specimens
- The Speciment Processing Services Lead attends meetings and serves as representative within the SCCA for laboratory clinical care functions and develops and maintain effective working relationships with other SCCA departmental staff and management
- Provides daily SPS staffing assignments and staffing assignment changes, as needed assuring proper allocation of staffing resources to cover department workflow volumes and staff break coverage on day, evening, weekend or holiday shifts.
- Assists with Review and updating of Specimen Collection and Handling Manual as needed.
- Assists with Staffing scheduling.
- Performs Patient Safety Net Manager Functions For Specimen Processing Service
- Maintains expert understanding of Sendouts, Bone Marrow, Phlebotomy, Laboratory information System, Centrifuge/Aliquot, LTFU mailed specimen handling

- Specimen handling and processing experience including, accessioning, centrifuge, aliquoting, and Sendouts.
This position is patient facing and/or requires access to Fred Hutch clinical facilities. As such, full COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment, without exception. Booster doses are strongly recommended but not required. If declining a booster, completion of the COVID-19 Vaccination Status Form Questionnaire and COVID-19 Booster Declination Training is required. The hourly pay range for this position is from $24.96 to $35.53 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
