The Transfusion Services RN provides collaborative support for the transfusion planning and management of the SCCA Transplant, Immunotherapy, Hematology, and Heme-Malignancy patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings. The RN operates in a multidisciplinary environment and across multiple institutions.
Responsibilities
- Review patient records for individual patient clinical issues related to transfusion.
- Gather and review transfusion and transplant history to establish the patient transfusion profile.
- Prepare reports to communicate individual patient transfusion profiles to the blood bank serving the patient and patient care teams.
- Gather clinical data regarding transfusion reactions and facilitate appropriate changes to transfusion profile.
- Evaluate, track and process blood bank laboratory reports.
- Review reports to verify transfusion profile across multi-institutional systems.
- Consult and collaborate with inpatient and outpatient care teams.
- Facilitate consultation with the SCCA Transfusion Medicine Attending.
- Help develop and communicate a transfusion plan of care to patient care teams.
- Facilitates and tracks the response of HLA-selected platelets and granulocyte transfusions.
- Provide transfusion educate members to care team and patients with mismatched transplants.
- Serve as a liaison between partner patient-care areas for transfusion issues.
Qualifications
Required:
- BLS is a required and must be obtained within 30-days from the hire date, from an approved entity as outlined in the Basic and Advanced Life Support Training Verification Policy
- Nursing degree
- Current Washington State nursing license.
- Additional certification may be required dependent upon department.
- Critical thinking; the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge
- Ability to develop clinical judgment.
- Time Management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
- Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying response.
- Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skill.
- Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless it is requested, checking for understanding, and pausing and waiting for a response.
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Two years of nursing experience
SCCA has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, and there are no exceptions for any employee who is patient-facing and/or requires access to SCCA facilities.
Exceptions exist only for employees whose positions are fully remote, with no required access to campus. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees requiring access to campus must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $38.67 to $73.48 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Registered Nurses are paid on a step-scale basis and are also eligible for shift differentials and other pay premiums such as advanced degree, preceptor and certification.
