The Department of Consumer Science is hiring lecturer positions to teach one or more sections of the following courses in the Personal Finance major during the Fall 2023 semester. The Personal Finance program leverages economics, social sciences, and financial analysis from a people-centered perspective, developing financial experts who can help individuals and families live more financially secure lives.
CNSR SCI 275: Consumer Finance This course is an introduction to concepts and methods used in personal and family financial planning. Methods for planning and allocating resources to attain specific financial objectives are discussed. Topics include investments in real and financial assets, consumer credit issues, and insurance, pension, tax, and estate planning.
CNSR SCI 627: Advanced Consumer Finance This course studies financial markets and instruments from the perspective of individual consumers and their portfolio decisions over their lifetime.
It is expected that CNSR SCI 627 will be taught in an in-person format, and CNSR SCI 275 will be taught in an online, asynchronous format during the fall of 2023, with the potential to continue teaching related courses in the Department of Consumer Science in the future.
Responsibilities:
Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
80% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
5% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
15% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations

Required Master's Degree A minimum of a Masters degree in Consumer Science, Business Administration or closely related field is required.

CONSUMER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Consumer Science develops students able to apply social science theories to understanding household and consumer interactions within the marketplace and the public sector. Students undertake research on consumer decision-making affecting the social and economic well-being of individuals and families. This is a multi-disciplinary degree program. Activities of the department are designed to foster development of a fair marketplace that enhances the interests and well-being of consumers, families and communities. The Department is home to a Ph.D. program in Consumer Behavior & Family Economics and undergraduate majors in Consumer Behavior and Marketplace Studies and Personal Finance.
