Job Summary
The Community Engagement Manager will build strategic community engagement and provide planning and support for Northeastern University Charlotte's events and outreach opportunities. Successful candidates will work with internal leaders and a variety of community stakeholders create timely and relevant engagement offerings of interest to local industry, nonprofit, and community groups.
The primary role of this position is to oversee an array of community outreach engagement events and programming for the Northeastern University Charlotte campus, with a goal of enhancing local visibility and supporting student enrollment in campus-based programs. In addition to overseeing existing events, the Community Engagement Manager will develop additional engagement opportunities that align with short- and long-term campus goals. The role is also responsible for developing, strengthening, and supporting campus/community partnerships on local and regional levels.
The Community Engagement Manager will have enthusiasm for envisioning and expanding targeted outreach opportunities beyond the campus' existing offerings. As an important aspect of the role, the Manager will support campus efforts to increase diversity and equity within Northeastern's partnerships, academic offerings, collaborations, and activities, and communicate externally about our efforts to drive equity and inclusion as a foundational aspect of Northeastern University Charlotte.
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships and working closely with staff across the Charlotte campus, the Community Engagement Manager will enhance the university's visibility and positive image of its community-engaged strategies and their impact on the Charlotte region. The Manager will collaborate with other Charlotte staff for campus-wide priorities related to community engagement.
Qualifications/Required Skill Set
Bachelor's Degree required.
2+ years of experience in program management, community engagement, relationship management, strategic planning, program operations, and/or special projects or related field.
A commitment to Charlotte and its people and the ability to cultivate positive community relationships.
Experience in community engagement and partnership-building.
An entrepreneurial and self-motivated mindset.
A sense of humor and enthusiasm.
The ability to manage multiple initiatives at the same time.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff to develop and implement strategies to advance Northeastern University Charlotte's local engagement and visibility strategies.
Willingness to be present and visible in community as a representative of Northeastern University Charlotte.
Strong interpersonal skills, sufficient to inspire others and work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues.

Strong organizational and time-management skills, including setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated written and oral communication excellence, including translating complex ideas into clear, compelling text free of grammatical and punctuation errors.
Ability to produce consistent excellent quality and thoroughness of work, with a high degree of attention to detail.
Must be able to navigate effectively with several constituencies in both on- and off-campus settings (i.e., students, faculty, staff, community organizations, and industry partners).
Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
Experience using online services and other data sources to conduct research.
Comfort with MS Office, Excel, Google Drive, PowerPoint, and social media platforms.
Familiarity with the Charlotte community or life sciences is desirable.
Travel Requirement
You will be occasionally required to travel, mostly regionally, to meet with established and potential partners.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and oversee visibility-enhancing opportunities and initiatives.
Serve as primary contact for all aspects of event coordination including the Local Leaders, Global Impact speaker series, Heart of Charlotte Awards, and additional campus event(s).
Build, maintain and track external engagement opportunities.
Evaluate progress towards engagement goals and update senior staff on status of current and future activities.
Create a regular cadence of engagement through a variety of opportunities crafted to enhance campus visibility, presence and impact on the Charlotte region.
Develop strong support for Northeastern locally and regionally.
Regularly identify new engagement needs and opportunities.
Assess community needs and recommend engagement events and programming to meet identified areas of demand.
Enhance local awareness around health equity and diversity efforts in Northeastern University's life sciences education.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to implement and strategically align projects and initiatives.
Be an expert in our current academic offerings and consistently seek to develop aligned engagement opportunities that can be offered to community groups, partners and local stakeholders.
Provide essential insight into what local engagement efforts will spark the maximum local interest, participation and visibility.
