Head-Royce School is seeking a Senior Accountant to work in the Business Office, supports budgeting, creates and administers a budgeting model for auxiliary programs, and assists the Director of Finance. The Senior Accountant is a reliable professional with well developed knowledge of accounting.
Job Responsibilities/Expectations
Reconcile multiple Bank Accounts
Prepare payroll journal entries
Streamline payroll procedures and processes
Reconcile Investment/Endowment Accounts
Advancement: Reconcile Raisers Edge vs. Financial Edge (Blackbaud)
General Ledger analysis - Journal entries including, but not limited to:
Record Tuition Revenue
Record and reconcile Prepaids and Amortizations
Record Depreciation
Submit 403B retirement plan on a timely basis
Month end close
Interfund transfers
Report on departmental actual vs budget and distribution of reports to departments heads
Quarterly
Balance sheet schedules
Financial reporting as needed
Reconcile the Endowment Unitization Schedule
Annually
Special filings, as needed
Enforces the use of generally accepted accounting principles and bookkeeping procedures to keep an accurate continuous record of transactions and cash.
Qualifications
Position requires 3+ years of accounting/financial management experience, preferable in an independent school environment.
Proven experience with budgeting and reporting.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, and experience with automated accounting systems.
Excellent communications skills, and good interpersonal, organizational skills.
Demonstrated skill in use of accounting software systems. Knowledge of the Blackbaud accounting package for schools is a plus.
Ability to communicate with staff and ability to use a computer for data entry, data retrieval, and report preparation.
Experience with accounting and business-related software, Microsoft Office applications.
Work independently as well as with professional staff, parent and community groups,
Present a positive attitude, to be self-motivated and manage stressful situations with tact, including meeting schedules and deadlines.
Experience working in a nonprofit environment is highly desirable, especially paid or volunteer work at an independent school.
Work within a community that expects collegiality and open communication
Able to maintain confidentiality
Skills
Comfortable working in and with diverse student and adult populations
Proficient within the Mac and Google Suite environment, using databases
Proficient with Blackbaud accounting system strongly preferred
Self-motivated, excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines required
Prior experience as a manager/supervisor of others
Other Requirements
Must be fully vaccinated (and boosted) against Covid-19 and show proof of negative TB test within the last four years in addition to participation in background screening
