Polytechnic School seeks a Payroll Administrator/Accountant who can balance their focus between traditional payroll functions and basic accounting practices. Our ideal candidate will be coming into a role whose incumbent just retired after 30 years of dedicated service. This is an outstanding opportunity to partner with the business department leadership in developing and creating how this role will strategically impact and improve financial operations. This role will have the opportunity to engage across our campus with various constituencies. It reports to the Director of Accounting and will closely collaborate with the accounting and human resources teams as well as various departments across the School.
Responsibilities Payroll - Oversee all payroll functions and payroll processing; - Ensure internal controls, system reviews are followed; - Ensure the accuracy of every payroll prior to submission; - Upon completion of payroll, review, analyze, post, and reconcile payroll records and transactions to all accounts; - Create and provide payroll and tax reports for federal, state, and local agencies as requested;
- Engage robustly in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote a healthy work environment; - Attend to payroll inquiries from employees; - Prepare general ledger entries and post payroll adjustments which include benefit entries, deductions, payroll taxes, year-end adjustments, and accruals; - Maintain payroll guidelines by devising and updating policies and procedures; - Bring a strategic mindset to improving payroll.
Accounting - Performs general accounting entries, fixed assets, treasury, and budgetary reporting; - Will work closely with Accounts Payables to coordinate positive pay procedures with the bank, issuance of 1099s, and prepare quarterly FTB filing; - Assist the Director of Accounting with preparing Year End Deferred Expenses, Year End Accruals, and Year-end assistance with Financial Statement Audit; - Will become familiar with and assist in general accounting functions; A/P, A/R and G/L; - Gathers requested documentation and helps coordinate internal and external audits; - Participates in the future projects of the department and provides support for system upgrades related to payroll and accounting; - Act as backup to various jobs in accounting; - Perform other accounting and financial tasks as may be required.
Qualifications - B.S. in Accounting or a similar field; - 3+ years of experience in accounting/payroll/finance; - Must have experience with payroll processing platforms like; ADP, Paycom, Paychex, etc.; - Working knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting procedures.; - Must possess extensive knowledge of principles, practices, and functions of full-cycle in-house Payroll management.; - Knowledge and adherence to regulations and laws that govern payroll labor compliance; - Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (written and verbal) skills required; - Excellent computer and Excel skills (Vlookup, Sumif, PIVOT Tables); - Organized and detail-oriented; - Timeliness and accuracy are a must; - Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities; - Ability to work well under pressure and balance multiple priorities and assignments to meet deadlines.
Physical requirements and work environment - Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, as well as a diverse array of contacts; - Work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time; - Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.; - Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment;
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
Salary and Benefits
Polytechnic School is committed to attracting and retaining talented, dedicated employees. The pay range for this role is $41 to $44 per hour depending on experience. Benefits: A full benefits package includes medical, dental and vision coverage and a 403 (b) retirement plan.
