For over 160 years, Lutheran Senior Services, serving the metro area of St. Louis, Missouri, and the regions of Central Missouri and Central Illinois, has been at the forefront of exceptional quality services with a faith-inspired, mission-driven focus that serves more than 13,000 older adults. The organization’s portfolio features eight Life Plan Communities and nine Affordable Housing Communities, along with various home health and community-based services in those two states. It is the 14th largest nonprofit senior living provider in the nation, according to the 2022 LeadingAge and Ziegler LZ 200 Report ranking data.
Lutheran Senior Services is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the community in meeting the needs of the next generation. The COO is directly accountable to the Board of Directors and is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership consistent with the mission, vision, and values of LSS in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards and regulations. The successful candidate will be both entrepreneurial and innovative in developing strategy, resources, and services to ensure the organization’s long-term viability.
The successful candidate for this position will have a minimum of seven years’ experience in the fields of business management, health care, or a residential management setting with supervisory experience. They will have a Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to health care, business or gerontology. A Master’s Degree is preferred. In addition, other highly desirable characteristics include expertise in creating, implementing, and executing business strategy and operational plans, the ability to lead large-scale change and implement projects over several years, and a customer service-focused, mission-driven approach to service delivery. Also, the candidate must embrace the “person-centered” care model and possess a keen financial intellect and a strong quantitative/analytical acumen.
No overnight travel will be required, as all job functions can be performed at facilities within driving distance. The farthest community away from the corporate office is no more than a three-hour drive away.
