The Social Policy Institute at Washington University in St. Louis seeks to hire a qualified individual to manage operations and strategic initiatives related to organizational infrastructure at the institute.
This person will manage administrative, human resources, operations activities, department partnerships, internal communications, and strategic plan implementation of organizationâ™s operational efforts working closely with the instituteâ™s director, associate directors, and researchers. They will provide leadership on the daily operations and strategic directions for organizational infrastructure, manage projects and programs, and serve as a central liaison and contact person for the Institute internally at WashU and within the Instituteâ™s staff. They will supervise staff and students working on relevant strategic projects and work collaboratively to meet the initiativesâ™ goals and outcomes. This person will maintain a clear understanding of SPI leadership teamâ™s priorities and be able to successfully develop and nurture relationships with the SPI staff and university colleagues in administrative and operational roles. Finally, this person will be instrumental in growing organizational culture and community within a robust and expanding institute across domains and priorities.
Job Description
The work will be performed in an office of the Brown School or remotely as allowed by the director
of SPI.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day operations of institute.
Serve as point person for facilitating decision-making and execution of the operations and objectives of the institute including those related to human resources, financial matters, and administrative duties.
Serve as primary liaison between project leads and with WashU departments ensuring communication is maintained.
Oversee project progress and ensure that projects and initiatives are soundly planned and managed.
Share knowledge, information, and best practices across institute staff and researchers to enhance collaboration and impact.
Support requests from Director, Associate Directors, and other colleagues across SPI and WashU departments related to operations and administrative concerns.
Support and supervise staff and students as appropriate ensuring needs are met throughout institute.
Serve as leader of implementing organizational management and internal infrastructure within Institute.
Establish and manage alignment of the Instituteâ™s projects, activities, operating systems, and financial model with its mission and strategic vision.
Supervise SPI staff and facilitate internal communication, coordination, and integration of effort across SPI projects.
Develop a "smart growth" staffing and capacity-building strategy that identifies incremental steps to scaling up SPI efforts aligned with its mission, vision, and strategic priorities while maintaining a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
Identify the design and implementation of organizational policies and procedures that facilitate development, growth, and efficacy of SPI staff in collaboration with Human Resources when appropriate.
Promote and nurture professional development across staff, graduate-level fellows, student workers, and other project team members.
Lead efforts to build cohesiveness and community across institute staff.
Represent Institute in communication and dissemination efforts for operations.
Plan and facilitate meetings and events, along with instituteâ™s administrative & communications core team, that serve the operations of the institute including all-staff meetings, annual retreats, among other all-staff wide meetings.
Support the writing, message development, meeting, facilitation, and other forms of communication as necessary to support the operations of the institute.
Identify and develop measures and metrics to communicate the operational goalsâ™ successes and opportunities for growth.
Represent SPIâ™s director and associate directors.
Manage operational strategic initiatives including financial allocations, human resources, and administrative efforts.
Develop and manage department budgets, including grant management, and financial processes in support of the Instituteâ™s goals.
Oversee hiring process of staff, student workers, consultants, etc.
Plan and execute strategic decisions about day-to-day Institute needs and direction, including approving financial transactions, hiring decisions, and allocating funds.
Implement, monitor, and update strategic plan and processes for the operations of the institute in collaboration with center director and administrative leadership team.
Allocate and modify administrative operations and resources to support the strategic directions.
Lead strategic initiatives related to organizational infrastructure, including developing goals of institute and alignment of mission and vision.
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Masterâ™s in public health, social work, social sciences, public policy, business administration, nonprofit management, or similar degree.
Significant research and administration experience, including supervisory experience and managing large projects in a fast-paced environment.
Project management, organizational development, communications, messaging, and marketing as it relates to research and advancing organizational priorities and strategic aims.
Public speaking and presenting research results and projects.
The ability to function independently as a professional and leader as well as collaboratively.
Ability to identify administrative needs and implement solutions.
Ability to plan and carry out work without supervision.
Ability to lead and organize the work of others.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree and three years of professional work experience or equivalent education and experience.
Proficient computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office and Excel are required.

Salary Range
$55,600.00 - $94,900.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
