Carsey School Center for Impact Finance â DirectorThe Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire is seeking to hire a successor to the founding director of its Center for Impact Finance. The position will begin on July 3, 2023. The Carsey School Center for Impact Finance (CSCIF) works with community development organizations, government agencies, Community Development Financial Institutions, banks, philanthropic organizations and businesses. The Centerâs mission is to equip the community development finance field with the products, tools, skills, and connections to address inequality and foster economic, ecological, and community resilience.Values:Low-income, low-wealth, and other disadvantaged people should have access to affordable, responsible financial products and services.Practical, high-level skills, tools, and networks are needed to succeed in a complex and rapidly changing impact finance ecosystem.More information about the Center is available at https://carsey.unh.edu/center-for-impact-financeEssential FunctionsThe director is responsible for managing the Centerâs applied research, training and convening agenda. The new director is expected to be a thought leader in the field and play a key role in helping the Center meet its goals of conducting rigorous and timely research, solving development finance institutionsâ most challenging financial problems, and training and mentoring the next generation of community development finance practitioners.Specific responsibilities will include:Work with the Centerâs team members to identify, develop, promote and carry out a research and consulting agenda that responds to the emerging needs of the field of community development impact finance and advances innovative and impactful practices within it.Manage and supervise the CSCIF research fellows and staff.Work with the Carsey School Director and team members to develop and implement strategy for the Carsey School of Public Policy .Build relationships with UNH faculty and staff in support of the Centerâs mission.Lead, initiate and manage research projects and consulting engagements as a principal investigator or co-investigator, with responsibilities to develop funding sources and write grant proposals, manage client and funder relationships, develop and oversee work plans, conduct research, write reports and publications, and deliver presentations.Build relationships in the field, including funders, investors, practitioners, regulators and academics, to increase the visibility of the Center and the School, secure resources to support its research agenda, and ensure the ongoing relevance of its work to key external stakeholders.Complete tasks in a fast-paced and self-motivated environment in a timely and efficient manner.Represent the Center in activities and programs including public events, workshops and training events.Serve on the Carsey School Management team.Communicate CSCIFâs mission, values and goals to key stakeholders including the advisory board, partner organizations, government agencies and funders.In collaboration with colleagues and partners, develops the outcomes and indicators that will be used to monitor the Centerâs progress towards its goals;Manage and support the Centerâs staff using a people-centered approach .The successful candidate for this position will have the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule (partially remote and in-office). Periodic campus/system office visits will be required.
Terminal degree in a field relevant to community development finance such as public policy, community development, business or urban planning. Ph.D. preferred.At least 15 years of experience in finance, community development or related field, with demonstrated experience in grant writing.Good organization skills, detail orientation, persistence, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, meet deadlines and solve problems.Strong leadership and management skills, with a supportive, people-centered approach.Strong oral and written communication skills.Commitment to the community development sector and the critical role of nonprofit organizations in driving social change.Work collaboratively and effectively with co-workers and representatives from the nonprofit, corporate, philanthropic, and public sectors, and with a diverse range of individuals and organizations.Strong fundraising skills.Strong skills in facilitative leadership; communicate effectively with both internal and external constituencies; and, work with flexibility, efficiency, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a tight-knit team.Ability to think strategically, remaining focused on goals and objectives;High level of organization and attention to detail.
