Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSEWorks with management to develop funding strategies for new and existing projects. Works with program directors and staff to write grant proposals for new and existing programs and writes program reports to existing funders, project leader(s) for proposals, and tracks due dates for all grants and reports.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCoordinate development efforts and increase sponsorship and partnership for the Center.Actively work with the Center directors and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support, including those with non-profit organizations, foundations, governmental bodies, corporations, etc.Collaborate with directors and senior researchers in identifying fundraising needs and priorities; develop major gift fundraising plans and strategies; establish realistic and achievable timelines; remain current with fundraising trends and serve as a resource on successful development activities, techniques and methods. Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundations, non-profit corporations, and government agencies.Have primary responsibility for development and execution of all proposals; write and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach.Perform research on foundations, non-profit corporations, and government agencies to evaluate prospective grants; identify grant opportunities online and through other sources.Negotiate and navigate internal university system including Sponsored Program Administration, the Development Office and other relevant units.Coordinate the completion of grant proposals including, but is not limited to, budgeting, adding supportive documentation, and writing portions of a grant as needed.Maintain proposal calendar, including cultivation activities, and reports to ensure that all applications and reporting deadlines are met.Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program.High energy and passion for the Center's mission is essential.Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.
Qualifications: EDUCATIONBachelors degree in communications, marketing, business administration, or related field; Masters degree preferred.EXPERIENCEMinimum of 3 years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources) and grant writing; in higher education highly preferred. Reasonable knowledge of University policies and procedures, including budgeting. Proven track record in securing new funding opportunities.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESRESEARCHKnowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research. comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs.ORGANIZATIONALFlexible and adaptable style; a professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.INITIATIVEAbility to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the Center.WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONSOutstanding written communication skills and editing skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.TIME MANAGEMENTAbility to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills.ANALYTICALAbility to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.COMPUTERProficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel.
