The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences/Iowa Youth Writing Project is seeking a Program and Outreach Coordinator to be the Iowa Youth Writing Project Associate Director.
The Associate Director of the Iowa Youth Writing Project works closely with the organization's Director to oversee and execute IYWP programming; to recruit, retain, train and supervise a team of student interns and volunteers; to represent the organization to community partners and stakeholders through outreach; and to maintain the organization's operating budget. The Associate Director's primary duties include managing outreach and communications to constituent families and donors (including newsletters, press releases, emails, and social media); supervising a team of 3-5 Outreach & Communication interns; overseeing crowdfunding campaigns and fundraisers in conjunction with other IYWP team members; planning and executing the annual Junior High Writing Jam (held in February); and coordinating the IYWP's "Finding Your Voice" college admission essay course (held in July and September). This position collaborates with the Director on large-scale efforts like the annual Junior High Writing Conference (held in April) and IYWP summer camps. Work schedule may include occasional nights and weekends. This is a two-year specified term position with the option for renewal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Outreach to and communication with youth and families, which involves managing incoming correspondence and inquiries
- Recruits student participants for special events and workshops
- Networks with new community partners to find opportunities for collaborative programming
- Works with IYWP team to communicate with donors and grow donor base
- Frequently appears alongside Director at community networking events (luncheons, Rotary Club, etc)
- Assists with or leads logistical efforts (room reservation, food purchasing, etc) for summer camps and Junior High Writing Jam

Required Education:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Required Qualifications:
- At least one year of related experience working in nonprofit administration
- Demonstrated evidence of capacity to envision, plan, and execute high-level projects from start to finish (e.g. event planning, fundraising, project development)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfort with public speaking.
- Demonstrated efficiency and organization; time management skills, including prioritizing among multiple tasks and working with tight deadlines.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
- At least one year working in an educational or para-educational (extracurricular, after-school) setting with K-12 youth
Desired Qualifications:
- Comprehensive understanding of K-12 arts outreach programming, ideally with regional emphasis
- At least one year of experience teaching and/or mentoring undergraduate students
- Experience leading teams, working collaboratively, and supervising volunteers, scholars, interns, and/or student workers
