Summary: The Island Support Team supports initiatives across ASTHO???s portfolio on a wide variety of public health topics with a focus on the U.S. Island jurisdictions. The team coordinates ASTHO???s projects and activities to meet the specialized needs of public health agencies in the U.S. Atlantic and the Pacific islands and ensures alignment with ASTHO???s strategic priorities. The Island Support Team Analyst will play an integral role in assisting programs across the organization with project deliverables, technical assistance, and capacity building for federally funded projects of value to territorial and freely associated state health officials. Topic areas include, but are not limited to, infectious diseases like COVID-19, health equity, social and behavioral health, emergency preparedness, chronic diseases, and data systems/informatics, among others.

Principal Functions:
Conducts qualitative and quantitative research and develops in-depth materials to assist staff in delivering capacity building and technical assistance to island members.
Fields and responds to requests for assistance and information from members, affiliates, and national organizations.
Delivers technical assistance in the field and helps coordinate and align ASTHO???s work in the U.S. Island jurisdictions.
Tracks and analyzes emerging policies and issues of importance to the islands at the jurisdictional and federal levels.
Assists with the Insular Areas Subcommittee and Island Areas Workgroup, helping formulate sound policy priorities and informing ASTHO???s advocacy agenda for the islands.
Maintains situational awareness of regional response and recovery actions to public health emergencies, threats, and chronic needs at a regional and jurisdictional level.
Conducts environmental scan of member priorities and coordinates with internal Research and Evaluation staff. Responsible for gap analysis leading the alignment and coordination of ASTHO projects based on the perspectives of: 1) members; 2) staff; 3) partners; 4) funders; and other relevant perspectives.
Translates and disseminates information to various groups and audiences.
Responsible for compiling and assembling communication materials for members and partners.
Responsible for maintaining the Island Support Team???s project tracking spreadsheets and maintaining situational awareness of project deliverables and responsible key staff across ASTHO.
Performs tasks associated with writing reports, managing contracts, drafting meeting minutes and professional correspondence; edits documents as required.
Coordinates project activities and deliverables, including logistics for in-person and virtual convenings (e.g., meetings, conference calls, webinars, etc.).
Represents ASTHO at local, regional, federal, and national meetings and serves as a liaison to partner organizations.
Monitors progress of project goals, helps evaluate project activities and outcomes, and forecasts needs.
Assists in the writing of proposals and progress reports for funders.
Assists with ASTHO website updates for the Island Support Team.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor???s degree in public health, health policy, or related field; Master???s degree preferred.
1-3 years of relevant experience.
Experience working for a membership association and/or government officials preferred.
Interest and knowledge in health equity and the public health systems and infrastructures of the Insular Areas, including funding and programs.
Understanding, sensitivity, and appreciation for cultural humility and inclusiveness.
Excellent writing and analytical skills.
Strong organizational skills to support multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically with public and internal contacts.
Ability to develop and maintain working relationships and collaborative networks to coordinate ASTHO programs and activities with other staff members and government organizations and to represent ASTHO at meetings and conferences.
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications and webinar platforms and ability to learn new software.
Ability to work independently, in a team environment, and across different teams.
Ability to work in a virtual setting and adapt to changing environments.
Ability to participate in calls after regular business hours with project participants in the U.S. affiliated Pacific Islands.
Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
