DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Advancement, the Assistant Director of Prospect Research and Management will create and execute a program for donor identification, research, and qualification in support of the University's fundraising success.
Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Conduct financial and biographical research on prospective donors, utilizing a variety of methods and tools, to identify wealth indicators, business activity, personal and professional connections, and philanthropic activity.
Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess donors' financial capacity, affinity, and propensity to make philanthropic gifts at the major and principal gifts level.
Create appropriately detailed reports to capture findings and record in database for easy access and reporting.
Deliver information to gift officers and Advancement leadership in a manner that supports fundraising strategy and decision-making in donor engagement.
Strategically build and refine gift officers' portfolios of assigned donors, offer guidance in prioritizing for outreach, and track progress of pipeline through the solicitation cycle.
Serve as a partner and resource for frontline fundraisers and Advancement leadership in assessing portfolio health and creating strategies to achieve established goals.
Proactively identify new prospects for research via screenings, leads from gift officers and volunteer leaders, and other methods to support fundraising priorities and broaden the donor pool.
Conduct prospect review meetings with frontline fundraisers and Advancement leadership to determine engagement opportunities and potential affiliations with other members of the University community.
Collaborate with Advancement leadership to create briefing materials for University leaders for events and interactions with select top-level donors and prospects.
Track the division's progress toward goals in key fundraising and activity metrics.
Serve as the lead on all matters related to prospect research and take on special projects as they arise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors' degree required. Three (3) - five (5) years of nonprofit and/or higher education Development and/or Advancement experience required. General knowledge of fundraising concepts and the donor solicitation cycle preferred. The ability to be strategic, identify connections, develop written reports to communicate findings, and maintain multiple projects in a collaborative working environment with competing deadlines is essential. Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and basic queries; experience with donor databases, CRMs, and data mining tools is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and working knowledge of terminology related to fundraising, campaigns, and gift vehicles are required. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to establish exemplary relationships with internal and external clients and partners. The successful candidate must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
