(“Lifeworks”) is a Minnesota 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1965 by parents of children with disabilities who recognized the importance of advocacy and removing barriers for people with disabilities to be part of the community. Lifeworks envisions a community where people with disabilities are more broadly valued, are hired by employers, receive support, and participate in ordinary activities. Lifeworks’ programs are robust, client-centered and evolving. As an approved Financial Management Service (FMS) provider through the State of Minnesota, Lifeworks helps individuals enrolled in the state’s consumer-driven grant and service programs.
Today, Lifeworks operates day services at two facilities in Apple Valley and Brooklyn Park. In addition, Lifeworks works to increase access to opportunities; through its network of 400+ community partners, Lifeworks connects people to experiences that explore their interests, develop skills, and start or advance their careers.
During the pandemic, Lifeworks successfully pivoted to a remote services model, continuing to provide personalized support and community engagement. Skilled in solving complex situations and navigating regulations, Lifeworks has also innovated to provide more user-friendly experiences and invested heavily in offering culturally appropriate services. After a highly successful founder transition and the five-year tenure of its President and CEO, Lifeworks is preparing for another leadership succession. The organization is doing so from a position of strength, with a dedicated team, strong culture and excellent financials. The next President and CEO will guide the organization through a rapidly evolving sector and complexities of the disability services sector.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President and CEO for Lifeworks will set the strategy and vision for the organization while providing executive management for this large, complex nonprofit organization. The President and CEO will take the lead in representing Lifeworks as its senior spokesperson.

Strategy and Vision
Recommends to the Board and consistently manages to Lifeworks’ strategic plan and performance measures. Develops and engages all stakeholders in vision for Lifeworks that fulfills mission and addresses quickly evolving funding and service environment.
Organization and People Leadership
In partnership with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) establishes goals and performance criteria for organization and departments. Supports the ongoing effectiveness of staff and teams through performance management and development.
Provides management, guidance and support to the ELT and personally hires and supervises ELT positions.
Serves as a champion for Lifeworks’ culture and values, positioning Lifeworks as an organization that attracts, retains and motivates top quality staff.
External Relations and Fundraising
Authentically serves as the “Face of Lifeworks” in its external relationships; coordinates with Staff and Board to maximize effectiveness of external role.
Partners with Staff and Board to ensure that Lifeworks executes on opportunities for broadening and diversifying Lifeworks’ fundraising reach.
Financial and Risk Management
Ensures the soundness of the organization’s financial structure and practices.
Understands and manages Lifeworks’ enterprise risk; works with appropriate Board Committees and Staff to manage risk.
Governance and Board Relations
Serves as the primary liaison to the Board. Partners effectively with the Board on cultivation and orientation of Board members, maintaining Board best practices, and keeping the Board informed on the operations of the organization and external factors.
Ensures Lifeworks’ compliance with regulations and laws governing business operations, as well as Lifeworks’ governing policies.
Base salary in the $200Ks + annual bonus.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader of complex organizations with a passion for Lifeworks’ mission.
10+ years of organizational leadership experience
Strong understanding of landscape in disability or human services considered a plus
Experience managing complex organizations and working in an evolving industry
Knowledge of and experience interacting with government funding agencies and mechanisms a plus
Proven builder and manager of high performing teams
Strong skill set in relationship building and stakeholder engagement; experience in engaging donors and fundraising a plus
Proven ability to explore beyond traditional constraints of business in evolving, regulated environment
Strategic, innovative, and experienced at leading change
A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree in nonprofit management, business management or a related field is preferred.
