Summary for the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Manager of Operations
The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Manager of Operations will work with the Firm’s Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) to manage and implement strategic DEI programming and projects to advance the DEI mission and goals of the Firm, including working closely with the Marketing / Business Development Team, affinity group leaders, Partners and other Firm stakeholders. The DEI Manager of Operations will maintain high levels of professionalism, strict confidentiality, and discretion in all client and Firm matters.
The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Manager of Operations position may be located in either the Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles - Century City, New York or the Washington, D.C. office. Katten is currently working remote at this time. After the office reopens, Katten will offer the opportunity to work from home with occasional office presence required (KattenFlex).

Serve as the primary resource to the Director of DEI with respect to the design and implementation of DEI initiatives and provide support to Firm stakeholders in support of the Firm’s DEI goals, including projects related to the recruitment, development, retention, advancement, and education of the Firm’s Attorney and Business Professional populations, sponsorship and mentoring initiatives, and DEI events.
Collaborate with the Marketing / Business Development Team regarding the Firm’s DEI commitment and activities, including for purposes of internal communications and presentations, news releases, annual Firm reporting, internal and external DEI websites, external publications, and in response to client and industry requests.
With the support of the DEI/Talent Analyst, manage the Firm’s participation in and response to industry surveys regarding DEI, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information for all submissions.
With the support of the DEI/Talent Analyst, monitor progress made on the Firm’s diversity goals, including analyzing Firm data/metrics regarding diversity hiring and attrition statistics.
Monitor and evaluate the DEI budget, including sponsorships, vendor relationships, and other programs with regular assessments of relationships and expenditures, identification of additional opportunities, and evaluation of return on investment.
Collaborate with all members of the DEI Team and other departments at the Firm.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree; a J.D. or advanced degree is highly preferred. This position also requires a minimum of five (5) years of DEI experience with increasing responsibility, preferably in a large law firm or similar professional services environment, during which the knowledge, skills, and abilities applicable to the position were demonstrated.
Provide high quality client service and deliverables to internal and external clients, develop and maintain confidentiality and effective professional relationships within a highly matrixed organization, deploy tact, diplomacy, patience, and discretion, and influence broad groups of stakeholders and senior leaders – without direct authority.
Pay impeccable attention to detail and perform as a trusted writer, grammarian, and editor, including drafting and editing for structure, format, and content, and communicating and presenting clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Proactively plan and implement projects, including defining project scope, goals, deliverables, and stakeholders; autonomously creating, monitoring, and analyzing project progress, and assessing project results.
Organize and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines in a compressed timeframe, meeting deadlines and successfully managing workloads.
Proficiency in utilizing the full suite of Microsoft office software, including advanced functions of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute files, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
Ability and availability to travel to other Firm locations when required.
Work occasionally requires more than 37.5 hours per week (35 hours per week in New York) to perform the essential duties of the position.
