We are seeking a creative, motivated and results-driven individual with a background in cultivating relationships and generating sales of products packaged for the corporate and individual audience in this newly created position at the Society of Actuaries (SOA).
Under the supervision of the Senior Employer Engagement Specialist, this role is responsible for selling and recommending new ideas for non-dues revenue programs, products and services that improve actuarial teams’ performance. Items such as group pricing and professional development packages will be promoted and sold to employers of actuaries and other audiences. Sales are accomplished through proactive emails, virtual meetings and face-to-face communication with both existing and prospective organizations. The business development lead will also work closely with staff in the Professional Development, Research and Product Development & Innovation departments and represent the SOA by raising awareness of the profession at various events to diverse audiences.
Determine decision-makers, conduct outreach and develop target-specific strategies and tactics to reach revenue goals of products, programs and services
Identify new audiences outside of the actuarial profession that may be leads for these products, programs and services and research project sponsorships
Lead presentation efforts – securing an appointment, organize presentation teams, run meeting and share specific pitch details with stakeholders before the presentation
Create tools needed to fulfill strategies (promotional emails, written excerpts and video testimonials, free webinars for specific practice settings)
Work with Innovation to develop new or repurposed products
Work with Research to develop project sponsorship opportunities
Work with marketing to create compelling materials
Maintain appropriate documentation of efforts in the sales database (Salesforce)
Champion SOA’s efforts at awareness events where academic influencers are present such as STEM fairs and conferences focused on attracting students and stakeholders to the profession
Engage the appropriate members of the staff to resolve any employer or other stakeholder issues identified during sales outreach process. Create efficiencies in employer engagement using every opportunity to develop relationships and identify the needs of each employer that could lead to new programs and services designed for that audience
Identify trends that could impact business and identify solutions
Maintain a working knowledge of the industries, actuaries, and employers the SOA serves
Create sales reports and projections
Keep detailed notes in Salesforce/Personify (SOA’s AMS)
Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum of three to five years’ experience in a sales role
Demonstrated success in a sales role featuring various products and services
Demonstrated understanding of and experience with using sales tracking technology knowledge of Salesforce a plus
Strong organizational and project management experience
An attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Ability to work well with constituents/customers and demonstrate a high level of diplomacy and sensitivity
Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

WORK ENVIRONMENT (environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job).
Staff is currently working remotely due to the pandemic; however, position will be “hybrid” requiring time in the office as well as working remotely
Some overnight travel is required, up to 15%
