The department is comprised of nearly 200 professionals with departments including Civic Engagement and Economic Partnerships, Government Relations, Community Partnerships, Educational (K-12) Partnerships, Government Partnerships (including USCâs seven Head Start early childhood education centers), and USC Radio Group (KUSC and KDFC), the nationâs largest classical music provider.
Reporting directly to Senior Vice President (SVP), the Executive Director is a critical member of the senior leadership team for University Relations.Â As a key advisor and project manager, the Executive Director will lead a two-person team that serves as the primary liaison for the departmentâs coordinated relationships with administration, academic, faculty, staff, and student leaders. This includes managing various high-profile cross-institutional projects, ensuring excellent customer service to our campus partners, and providing executive leadership to the departmentâs project management infrastructure. This role is integral to a cohesive internal ecosystem that supports University Relations role in advancing USCâs external community, government, civic, education, and cultural partnerships.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate the departmentâs multiple internal touch points with deans, faculty, staff, and students on a range of issues while ensuring consistent and responsive engagement with our internal stakeholders.
Lead a discrete set of âmajor projectsâ related to our departmentâs mission that require cross-institutional strategic partnership and coordination. Manage deliverables, metrics, and project evaluations.
Establish and manage a new collaborative of external and community relations leaders from across USC to promote alignment, strategic partnerships, information sharing, and new opportunities to deepen the institutionâs positive impact together with the communities and stakeholders we serve.
Proactively identify new partnerships that contribute to and further the mission of University Relations.
Oversee the departmentâs overall project management infrastructure including software, templates, and best practices while serving as an advisor to team leaders with their own strategic initiatives.
Develop and maintain the database of key internal campus partners, experts, and other resources.
Support the SVP with university leadership initiatives, search committees, and other projects.
Be a thought partner and resource to the departmentâs leadership team and staff.
Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture including with the Manager, Strategic Initiatives, the University Relations leadership team, and with colleagues across the department.
Bachelorâs degree; graduate degree in a related field, preferred.
At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including managing complex, cross-department projects in an education, nonprofit, social enterprise, or large public sector environment
Advanced strategy and planning skills, including an ability to think strategically on both organizational and systemic levels over multi-year horizons
Advanced complex stakeholder, project management and data analysis and tracking skills including experience with Asana, Microsoft Team, or other similar programs
Exemplary oral and written communication skills, exercising diplomacy, tact, discretion, and confidentiality.
Ability to shepherd highly coordinated tasks through hierarchical matrix organization
Measured project management approach with high attention to detail, accountability, and ownership of projects and initiatives
