The American Dental Association is dedicated to promoting the public's health through its initiatives in research, education, advocacy, public awareness and the development of standards.
The Manager, Allied Dental Education oversees and executes all aspects of accreditation for over 300 dental hygiene education programs, including:
Developing policy reports and completing post-meeting follow-up;
Preparing accreditation site visit reports and correspondence, monitoring and processing accreditation applications and program reports, and providing related responses and general correspondence;
Maintaining current, accurate accreditation documents, templates and files, ensuring electronic records are up to date, and public information is available on the Commission’s website;
Overseeing approximately 40-50 allied site visits per year;
Formulating and implementing policies related to dental hygiene education;
Utilizing research and Commission policy to make appropriate decisions;
Serving as staff secretary for the dental hygiene review committee and other committees as assigned;
Serving as a liaison and resource to other agencies;
Providing continuity and consistency in understanding, interpreting and applying Commission policies and standards necessary to act as a resource for programs, site visitors and Commission volunteers; and
Maintaining site visitor documents, and developing and providing training and information to CODA volunteers.
This individual attends 1-2 allied dental-related conferences and provides on-site staff support for approximately 7-10 site visits annually. The Manager is required to be trained annually in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance policies and procedures.
Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in/with higher education, accreditation or its equivalent.
Must have supervisory experience of groups or work committees.
Must have experience working with a large number of volunteers and tracking details.
Must have experience working in a team approach environment.
Must have the ability to prioritize and execute accurate and complete work products with limited supervision.
Must be able to analyze complex issues related to education and accreditation.
Must have the ability to analyze causes and synthesize related information and formulate creative strategies for enhancing the accreditation process.
Must have excellent oral and written communication.
Must have report writing, interpersonal, analytical, creative problem solving, organizational, project management, and time management skills.
Must have knowledge of trends and issues related to health professions education, accreditation, institutional effectiveness, and competency-based education.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Must be proficient in Databases, Websites, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint or other web-based document retention and meeting platforms.
Evening and weekend work may be necessary while traveling for CODA site visits, to attend national meetings, and to participate in CODA or committee meetings, for example.
Extensive travel is required
Highly Desirable Skills:
Graduate of a Commission-accredited dental education program
Occupational experience in an allied dental or dental educational setting
Knowledge of allied dental politics and practice
Knowledge of allied dental accreditation and higher education evaluation
Occupational experience with an accreditation agency, preferably in the healthcare field
