The Governance Manager contributes to the successful execution of the strategic initiatives and governance activities for the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Board of Directors, Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (AACEM) Executive Committee, and Resident and Medical Student (RAMS) Board of Directors and all associated committees, task forces, workgroups and interest groups of SAEM. This position reports to the Director, Governance. The Governance Manager must exhibit the highest level of professionalism and integrity as this position often interacts with high-level stakeholders and confidential information.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the logistics for AACEM Executive Committee, RAMS Board of Directors, and GEMA Executive Committee meetings; scheduling conference calls/meetings, compiling and preparing agenda/meeting materials
Work with AACEM, RAMS, and GEMA committees and workgroups and manage their projects and timelines to ensure the achievement of AACEM’s strategic initiatives
Track action items coming from meetings to ensure staff next steps are followed through on
Manage the governance/administrative processes in accordance with association policies and timelines, while implementing process improvements where needed
Manage logistics for AACEM/AAAEM Annual Retreat; scheduling conference calls/meetings, compiling and preparing agenda, meeting/website materials, taking minutes
Manage the processes and activities related to elections; set up online nominations & voting platforms, collect/organize documentation, with oversight from the Director, Governance.
Serve as a staff liaison to other SAEM/RAMS committees, task forces, and interest groups, as assigned, ensuring responsibilities are executed in a professional and timely manner
Provide staff support to annual meeting and AACEM/AAAEM annual retreat, packing/shipping meeting materials, and other duties as assigned
Communicate with other staff, members, and the general public in person, by telephone, ZOOM or through written correspondence

Ideal candidates must possess the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Non-Profit Management, or related field
2+ years of Board management, governance, legal, business or related experience
Prior non-profit or corporate governance experience preferred
Demonstrated High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
High energy, versatile and multi task oriented, self-directed problem solver with good analytical and organizational skills with consistent attention to detail
Ability to travel to conferences and/or meetings.
Ability to effectively manage confidential, sensitive, and urgent matters.
Enthusiastic desire to substantially contribute to the overall success of the organization
Flexibility under competing time requirements and changing deadlines
Positive team player who is accountable for initiating and coordinating projects through completion
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with staff, members, and outside contacts
Excellent proofreading and editing skills
Full-time position with the ability to work Monday-Friday during normal business hours. May be expected to occasionally work outside of normal business hours.
Ability to work effectively with and provide excellent customer service to a variety of internal and external members
