The American Library Association seeks to fill two professional communications positions in the Communication and Marketing Office (CMO).
Communications Managers lead marketing and communication efforts for ALA’s public awareness initiatives, such as National Library Week, Libraries Transform, Library Card Sign-Up Month, the I Love My Librarian Award, and the website I Love Libraries. In addition, the Communications Managers support revenue-generating areas such as Conferences Services and Member Relations Services on marketing initiatives. They also lead social media efforts for the association.
This is a role that requires key relationship building skills, a creative mindset and critical thinking abilities. This position will also work across the organization and with member leaders to optimize, pivot, and increase public awareness efforts.
The Communications Managers will need to coordinate a demanding portfolio of public awareness programs while also supporting ALA units and overseeing ALA social media. In addition, they will be part of a small group of member leaders and staff looking at the next public awareness campaign, which will launch in 2022.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Building annual plan and tactics for public awareness campaigns to increase visibility of the association among members of the general public as well as library professionals
Establishing a content strategy for ILoveLibraries.org to engage library lovers in the Association’s mission
Supporting marketing efforts of embedded communicators within Conference Services and the Member Relations & Services units, including optimizing web copy and email marketing campaigns
Social media content creation, scheduling, monitoring, and analysis
Working with Director, CMO colleagues, Association executives and member leaders to engage in analysis, planning, and execution of a new public awareness campaign
Starting Salary: Negotiable from the mid-60s, based on relevant experience. ALA offers a 35-hour work week, excellent benefit package including low-cost medical/dental insurance, retirement annuity and generous paid vacation.
This is a full-time, position based in Chicago, IL. ALA staff are currently working remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic. We will resume in-person work at ALA's offices downtown when it is safe to do so. The selected candidate(s) will need to live in Illinois.
