The American Fisheries Society (AFS), dedicated to strengthening the fisheries profession, advancing fisheries science and conserving fisheries resources, seeks a Membership Database Manager to oversee the association management system and member services.
AFS members are individuals from around the world working for state and federal agencies, academia, nonprofits and commercial enterprises as well as institutions located primarily in North America. The Society, which recently celebrated its 150th anniversary, is organized into two-dozen sections (special interest groups) and over 100 state/student chapters and regional units.
In addition to the following position accountabilities, AFS is looking for a bright professional who brings technical savvy and a flair for member relations. The incumbent will work with department staff and an active membership committee strengthening individual and organization membership through analytical reporting and tools for monitoring member preferences, composition and demographics.
Manages the membership database to include upgrades, integrations and enhancements; develops dashboards, metrics tracking and other reporting systems, coordination of support/service requests through reseller; oversight on data input, integrity and maintenance; interface with program areas for reports related to membership trends, demographics and counts; and provide service and reports to Chapters/Units.
Conducts membership renewals and billing processes, to include review of data, development of invoices, creation of member renewal letters and reminders, processing of incoming payments with Accounting, and development of associated reports.
Works with leadership, staff and the membership committee to strengthen individual and organization member retention, recruitment and engagement through marketing and associated development campaigns.
Recommends tools and processes to onboard new individual members, engage them throughout their membership and advance them to new member categories (student to early-career to professional) in alignment with their career level. Works with the program departments to promote member benefits, sections (special interest groups), professional development, publications, volunteer opportunities and other Society services.
Works with chapters/units to collect nonmember (affiliates) information and coordinate recruitment efforts across the Society promoting AFS member value and career advancement.
Assists with the institutional Strategic Partner Program (SPP) fulfillment and coordination in conjunction with the staff marketing team.
The successful incumbent shall possess advanced association management system experience, the ability to leverage database information, through queries and analytical reporting, for understanding member trends and demographics. In addition, the ideal candidate shall possess experience with membership development and engagement, and familiarity with marketing, social media and web content management. The individual shall have a flair for accuracy and meeting deadlines, be customer-service focused and have strong project management skills.
Bachelor degree with minimum five years nonprofit membership management experience.
