The Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance and Treasurer (the Treasurer) is a career defining opportunity for a collaborative leader that brings strong analytical and strategic thinking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including the Board of Trustees. As an officer of the University, the Treasurer position calls for an experienced leader with knowledge in a range of financial and risk management areas including investment management, cash and debt management, real estate financing, banking laws and regulations, data privacy and insurance. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment in a large, complex organization serving as a trusted advisor to leadership.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Office of the Treasurer (OOT) is responsible for the strategic oversight of all University-wide treasury management activities and systems including capital structure and liquidity, and providing treasury services to the WashU community. The OOT optimizes and safeguards operating cash across the University, enables payments and the receipt of funds, and manages the University’s commercial banking partnerships and bank account structures. The OOT manages the University's “internal bank” and works closely with University leadership to finance capital projects and real estate transactions in a strategic manner to serve WashU for generations to come. The Treasurer leads a team of 17 staff and is responsible for protecting the University’s assets through the management of the Insurance and Risk Management functions and overseeing the operations of the University’s Student and Parent Loan programs.

Creative approaches to understanding broad strategic issues as well as the tactical approaches to implementation.

Master’s degree in finance, business administration or related field required, plus 10 years of strategic enterprise-level experience in sophisticated financial, treasury and risk management at a large, complex organization; orBachelor’s degree in finance, business administration or related field, plus 15 years of strategic enterprise-level leadership experience at a large, complex organization.
Professional designation such as CFA is a plus. Experience working with and presenting to a Board of Trustees/Directors. Nonprofit experience is highly desirable.
