Under the guidance of the Assistant Dean of Outreach and Diversity (ADOD), the Engineering Outreach Program Manager (EOPM) will co-design educational material, develop program materials, and manage the day-to-day engineering outreach activities with local schools and nonprofit organizations acting as the official BU College of Engineering outreach representative. Responsibilities include the development of educational materials to communicate the engineering field to students, including K-12 students, community college students, veterans, and non-traditional students. The EOPM will assist in hiring graduate and undergraduate students and manage to schedule.
The EOPM will manage existing outreach programs while simultaneously streamlining these programs to ensure our methods are current, culturally responsive, and effectively reaching the community we are serving, and develop new programs to strengthen and broaden our impact. Existing outreach programs include the Technology Innovation Scholars Program (TISP) - a program designed to inspire, excite and prepare the next generation of engineers through undergraduate and graduate student -peer-mentorship and guidance, through hands-on, custom-made engineering activities. Such as FIRST Robotics Competition and LEGO League teams, and The BU U-Design, a summer workshop for middle and high school students.
The EOPM will manage the recruitment, selection, and training of current undergraduate and graduate students as mentors and ambassadors for outreach programs. Organize events and materials/activities for the various outreach programs. Collaborate with area educators and administrators to encourage partnerships and promote our programs and BU College of Engineering. Occasionally outreach events will require attendance outside of the normal workday/workweek schedule for school visits, lab tours, and competitions. The position will also be responsible for ordering supplies for the office, events, and programs; requiring contracted services with both internal and external vendors.
The EOPM will supervise expenditures, purchases, payments, and sign accounting documents. Maintain records; manage student payroll and the outreach program and office budget.
3-5 years of experience
Will consider a candidate with Master's degree and 1-3 experience
Preferred coursework in STEM education, engineering, technology, computer science, or related field
